Columbia and Sony studios have obtained the film rights to the Smurfs, the 1980s Hanna-Barbera series which was based in a 1950s Belgian comic. The movie will incorporate both computer animation and live acting, reported the BBC.
No casting decisions have been made, but the studios are in negotiations with David Stem and David Weiss, the people who wrote the second and third Shrek movies, Reuters reported.
