I think he argues with Simon because everyone else gangs up on Simon, so he can do it with the knowledge the crowd will back him up. I wish they would all shut up when the judges spoke. It's getting to where no matter what reality show, if the judges give advice, the competitors think they know more!

His fans expect him to have a funky hairstyle each week, so he has a funky hairstyle. His fans expect Simon to ride him and for him to shrug it off with decided indifference, which is exactly what he does, or did.
Terrible as he was, I must admit that I was rooting for him, just to see Simon get irritated.
