Were you or are you in a clique? |
|
The definition of a clique is: an informal and restricted social group formed by people who share common interests. I was never part of a clique or did I wish to be. It's ok to have a group of friends that share the same or similar interest as you, but I didn't see any reason to be part of the cliques I'm talking about. The cliques I'm talking about were made up from the 'popular' kids. Kids that wanted to treat everyone else like dirt or judge you because you didn't look right or talk right or act right. Unfortunately, cliques always have been and always will be. Are there good cliques? Probably, but usually they don't consider themselves a clique. Did you 'fit' in or did you like being the 'odd-man' out?

1. Woodpigeon (2594) | 1 year ago | I have always had lots of friends across the board but I get very close to very few. So, you could say, not too many make it into MY inner circle. I just got burned by a friend in real life who was in that inner circle and god help the next person who tries, because said friend just made it a lot harder for everybody else. I am truning into a cynical old biddy and am probably far too young for it.

2. danishcanadian (14532) | 1 year ago | I have never been in that kind of clique, I didn't want to be, and I never will be. People who want to judge and hurt others for their own selfish gain or for any other reason, are idiots whom I don't want to have anything to do with.

3. ladyluna (1988) | 1 year ago | Hello Elkhawk, Yeah, I guess I was part of a clique in both high school, and as an undergrad. However, I never restricted my interaction with just my clique. I really enjoy different kinds of people, and fortunately so did most of the rest of my clique's. So, it was pretty normal to find 'odd-man out' types regularly weaving into and out of our group of friends. Even the cheerleaders would intermittently, or in some cases regularly interact with our group. I'm actually pleased to admit that our 'group' was considered 'cool' because we weren't elitist, but were welcoming to any others who shared similar interests and values. We were the more outspoken, rowdier group, and didn't always abide by the rules, but we were hell-bent on fairness, justice, and a good adventure. So, in answer to your question, I was part of a good clique. I think we did alot of good, grew alot and helped others grow, and knew there was someone who had our 'six'.

elkhawk (1602) | 1 year ago | That sounds very unusual. I'm glad that you had this luck in being part of a good clique.

elkhawk (1602) | 1 year ago | I had a group of friends that I associated with, but I wouldn't have considered us a clique. Well, maybe I would have. We were the 'choir' clique. I think that there were about 10 of us that liked to be together and do things together. Fun times.

Ravenladyj (14854) | 1 year ago | I was in a clique of sorts I guess...not that we deemed us to be one but we were labeled lets say by the popular (they were the "preps" and the "browners") kids...We were considered the "stoners" OR "headbangers" depending on who you asked LOL We DIDNT fit in...which is why we were labeled the way we were.....

5. hcromer (2194) | 1 year ago | I wasn't really in any clique. I hung out with maybe two or three people on a regular basis and we were all Thespians, but we didn't hang out with the "drama kids". We talked to pretty much everyone. I didn't hate being the odd-man out, but it seems like I missed out on a lot of fun times with people that I hang out with now that were more popular in school.

6. 4cuteboys (2899) | 1 year ago | No, I wasn't really part of a "clique" but I was friends with the popular kids. But I had been picked on as I was an ugly duckling, so when I got older and wasn't the ugly duckling anymore, suddenly all the popular kids wanted to be my friend, which was fine, but I was friends with everyone, the kids that got picked on, the popular kids, the druggy kids. Anyone that was nice, I would hang out with. So I would have to say no, to answer the question.

7. lifeluver (352) | 1 year ago | No, I was never a part of a clique but I used to have many friends from different walks of life. During lunch hour, I used to start at one end of the school and make my way along, visiting friends as I went. Most of my friends were among the "stoners" and "headbangers" (like my old friends Whammy and MoeHawk) as discribed by the poster above but some were "preps" and were involved is school functions like the yearbook committee. Still, to this day, I can get along with just about any type of person but I still think I like being around the "stoners" better, lol.

elkhawk (1602) | 1 year ago | The "stoners" were probably the nicest. Probably because they were too relaxed to care. LOL

8. 4MYGIRLS (5062) | 1 year ago | i fit in pretty well with everyone. but i guess some people think that my friends and i were a clique. i was never mean to anyone, but there was a few people that we just didn't want to hang out. and that was only because they did not share the same interest as us they just wanted to be seen with us.

9. oneandonemakesix (24158) | 1 year ago | I've always been the odd person around where I am.... Most of the time I just don't fit in, and well animals seem to like me better than people. It takes me a year before I feel comfortable enough with people to talk to them on a more personal level. Never been in a clique, never really want to be in one. Mooch

10. uiwwitch (715) | 1 year ago | I was in a clique when I was in high school. We did not plan it, it just happened. But we weren't the kind of clique that everybody hated or feared. We were just having fun and too close to each other that we were always together. We never treat anyone as dirt and we never talked down or talked bad about anybody. In fact, years and years after (yes it was that long ago!), we're still best friends. that was actually the best thing that happened to me in high school.
