Gentle MUM Strict DAD

We really try hard not to do that in our family. I know I'm the stricter one but we want our child to see that Mom and Dad are a unit and they cannot play one against the other. So, what my husband and I did are to discuss the rules, boundaries, do and don'ts so we both agree on something that we're comfortable with and apply them accordingly. I don't think discipline should only fall on one parent. I think that is the job of both parents. But it can be something you're both comfortable with. For example, if you both agree that you're not going to spank the child. Then, what will the appropriate punishment be if the child misbehaves? Maybe you can use a time-out chair. That would be the gentler approach but that does not mean it's a more lenient approach. You can still be strict and fair and your child will learn that there are consequences to his/her actions and your child will appreciate that in later years.

My husband and I play this bad cop/good play without any thinking. Although our roles are different from yours. Im the bad cop and my husband is the good cop. Even though Im the bad cop my son dont listen to me. He tests my buttons quite often. My son is also 2 years old. When I have had enough I have my husband take care of things and all he has to do is raise his voice a bit and automatically my son acts like his daddy just beat him LOL. He dont even do that to me. My husband doesnt like the idea of hitting our son because we were both abused growing up although I wasnt abused like my husband was.

For our family I am the boss. I do all the regular displine. But when it is a real biggy, I do have their dad and I discuss it together. Then they seem to realize how serious it is. But for the most part he gets the fun I get the chores. I don't really mind though, my mommy day gifts are bigger than his... As long as they know you love them they will understand.
