Is there a point in progress?  | |  Is there a point in scientific, economic progress, progress in ethics, politics, etc? Or would we be happier if we remained 'in the dark'? Does life get measurable 'better', 'happier' or simply more and more complex with progress? Given that each generation is used to living with certain scientific discoveries, social attitudes, political systems, etc., and all we are aware of is the past and how we've progressed, would it be so wrong if we stopped 'endeavouring' for progress?

 Rozie37 (6487) | 1 year ago |  Most of the progress in America is due to pure laziness. We will do almost anything to stay on our butts as much as possible. We have remote controlls for everything. For the television, the garage, the curtains, some toys and our stereos.
I am surprised no one has come up with a remote control microwave oven. They even have a vacuum that you no longer have to push. I am shocked that we have been so slow in developing a robot for work and home life. By now, all we should have to do is open and close our eyes and of course our mouth.

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things that are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. | |

There is always a striving for happiness, but we never become happy enough to be really happy! What is it other than another phenomenon that is simply obeying the law of evolution.
As a Zen practitioner my aim is to transcend the "desirous" state. Technology is a manifestation of the relative world and to deny it or to pursue it is to become attached (desirous). Yet to seek detachment from the relative is also paradoxically, a desire. What now!? That's Zen for you LOL
