Geneology....  | |  Anyone know how to trace your family's geneology? Me and my youngest sister are interested in trying to trace down our lineage and not sure where to start. I have found some sites on line, but they charge. Not sure where to begin. I mean, I have emails out to some family, but I don't have a lot of family to get in touch with. Thanks for any help.:)

Maybe the library is the place for that. You could research as far back as possible on your last name, and then take that information and go from there. I hope some of your relatives can help you out. Usually they have the most information.

Just saw your post it is really old but thought I would reply just the same.
I started my family search 8 years ago and used Rootweb.com it is free and has been very helpful.They have a pay side of their site it truly is a great site to do big family searches.
So try starting at Rootsweb.com. I have been searching old newspapers out of California.
I went to Newspaper Abstracts and they have tons of old-old newspaper that are free to view.Most all states in the U.S.A. and even other counties.
You can leave posts free at Rootsweb others posting maybe able to give you some info on your family roots.

myself i have found legacy6.0 which is free to download from the net which i found very good as you can update it regularly as well & do a lot of things with like family photo's etc...
there is also a programme which i use on-line called geni which all you need is an email address to start it up which there are 1000's people which have their family tree's on there @ present we have about 2500 names on & you can do mountains of things & talk to family & you can invite family members to join you there as well & i get regular up-dates from geni all the time when others in our whanau have added etc...
there is also thru the lds church website you can do searches thru there on-line & also there in most country's a local church where there is a geneology centre they can help alot i have found myself that when i have been really stuck there is some-one that can help there.
All you have to have is basiccaly to start it up is you,your parents, your grandparents.
