Do you or a loved one have Dyslexia? |
|
How severe is it? How did you find out you had it? How do you cope with it? Please share your stories. I think I may have a mild case & just want to know what others have been through.

1. ElicBxn (8162) | 1 year ago | I might. More of a letter confusion tho. I get my "d"s and "b"s and "j"s and "g"s kind of mixed up, I will know what I want to write & then just write the wrong one. I do know I have a "language learning' problem. Of course, they didn't know squat about that stuff when I was a kid.

2. vmks31 (7459) | 1 year ago | I was a teacher/principal for 40 years so yes indeed i know about dyslexia but am grateful it ws not in my family nore my extended family but sad indeed .For those not familiar with this term '''' Dyslexia is a type of reading disability usually manifested as a difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. A person diagnosed with dyslexia is called a dyslexic; and a dyslexic by definition has adequate intelligence. Evidence suggests that it is a result of a difference in how the brain processes written and/or verbal language. It is separate and distinct from reading difficulties resulting from other causes, such as deficiencies in intelligence, non-neurological deficiency with vision or hearing, or from poor or inadequate reading instruction.[1] If you want to see much more especially treatment go here and you will more then you can digest... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyslexia

3. crazy_ol_lady (567) | 1 year ago | hi gwen, My son has dyslexia. We found out when he was in school. He always got his b's and d's backward. That was the first time we had any idea. Took him to the doctor and got it verified. He seems to be dealing with it through his wife, who reads things with him to make sure he has the right understanding of what ever he is reading. Happy posting..

6. Pigglies (3445) | 7 months ago | I might have a very mild case. I've been tested and it didn't show up. But the problem is, if you're older you already have coping mechanisms so it is harder to diagnose a slight case. I do have severe scotopic sensitivity however, which is the main cause of my reading difficulties, not the slightly dyslexia (if any). The dyslexia part probably would only affect my right and left and horrible sense of direction.

7. Pigglies (3445) | 6 months ago | I might have a mild case of dyslexia. But due to years of learning to cope, I tested negative for dyslexia once I finally got tested. I do however, have severe scotopic sensitivity syndrome, which can often be mistaken for dyslexia due to it causing reading problems as well. For years I was sure I had dyslexia as either my main or only problem, until a friend told me what she had and gave me a book on it. After 5 months to read a 100 page book, I realized that was me and got tested. You might want to have a look at www.irlen.com as well just to see if any of the problems related with SSS could be problems you're having as well. They have a short questionaire that you can fill out and don't have to submit or send in.

Pigglies (3445) | 6 months ago | Apparently, my computer is not showing messages tonight or something. Oops, I didn't even see that I already posted until I posted again. Oh well, I guess at least this time I remembered to post the link incase you wanted to check it out and see if you might have SSS as well.
