Fantasy Football: ESPN.com or Yahoo.com email this discussion to a friend?

Which do you prefer: ESPN.com fantasy league, or Yahoo.com fantasy league? ESPN's live updates is a great feature, but Yahoo makes you pay for that feature. ESPN still has retired players available for fantasy play (WHY?), but Yahoo's is up to date. So, tell your story of which you prefer and why?

Honestly, I prefer neither. I go with sandbox.com. I know its not free but its a lot better, I think. You are more likely to get active owners when they are having to pay for it. Also sandbox is up to date with their players and they have live scoring. I have been with sandbox for about 6 years or so. I started playing there when it was still free. So thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for the suggestion...we like the live updates of ESPN.com, but we've had a number of problems with it. I'll have to suggest it to my buddy, who's in charge of the league (total football nut!). Appreciate it!

What do you like about it? I've never heard of them before...is it free? Live updates? Comprehesive news about what's going on with various players or leagues?

I prefer Yahoo.com's fantasy football league because it seems a little simplier. Even if ESPN provides live updates, you don't actually need them. However, I've never done an ESPN.com football league, but the fact that it has retired players still available is surprising. You would think ESPN would be more up-to-date then that.

i like the one directly from the nfl and www.nfl.com - free, live scoring, plenty of player info...and they are even having fantasy play-off games...so that is my pick...never knew espn or yahoo had a league...but i would never pay for it when the nfl has such a nice one for free

myLot reputation of 93/100. scorpiobabes (1298)  1 year ago

Thanks for the suggestion--obviously, this season is largely over but there's always next season! I would have thought that nfl.com would have charged, but FREE is so much better!

yes, i think they used to charge a few years back...now i think they make enough $$$ from advertising to keep it free...they also give out prizes to top fantasy players. You should check it out now - they are having a play-off fantasy game, WHICH IS AWESOME - you can set line-up after this weekend once the playoff teams are determined.

I have played fantasy football since 1994. In 2003, my 2 local leagues started utilizing websites to host our leagues. I also joined another league online hosted by a fabulous site called myfantasyleague.com

I have also been in leagues that used: Yahoo, ESPN, FoxSports, and AOLfantasysports. I will rank them all next and tell you briefly about my experiences with each.

1. myfantasyleague.com or (mfl)= Most experienced fantasy players will send you to this site, but it is a paysite...but the best I have used and worth the small fee.

2. AOLfantasysports.com= I was very skeptical with anything involving AOL at first. It has many options though for setup and will even help you run leagues using salaries and dynasty/keeper format. Also free and free live scoring. Was very pleasantly surprised with this option.

3. Yahoo, ESPN & Fox are all fairly comparable, although depending on your league setup certain hosts will work better for certain leagues. As I recall the one year we utilized ESPN it was not very user friendly and I would probably go with Yahoo or Fox if I had to choose between these 3. Once again, give AOL a try next year when setting up your league...it is not well known about, but does the trick for most any league. Hope this helps somebody's league out in the future.

I dont know the entire spectrum of fantasy football as some other responders do but the fantasy on NFL.com is what I play and is very good. It is free and seems to have all the features you would want.

myLot reputation of 93/100. scorpiobabes (1298)  11 months ago

I think that's where our league will end up next year--we were definitely not happy with ESPN! Thanks for your input!

I've used both of them and still do, however I think CBS sportsline is by far the best. The stats are easier to get to and you can customize your stat sheets however you feel. Another thing is the way the page is set up makes getting to everything easier. The set line-ups page is simple and has the most common stats right with it.

Thanks for the input! Our league commisioner seems to be set with espn, with some tweaks...seems they can save the league info, since we're so far apart (NJ, Ohio and Kansas). Thanks for your input!
