Anyone use this? Have experience with the company? We used it for almost a year and had good service, never a problem. However, I called to cancel the service because we hadn't used it in a couple of months and are trying to set up a new office in our home. I first got an automated system. It told me that there was a high volume of calls at the present time, to please call back Tuesday through Thursday. Huh??? No thanks, I need this canceled today...MONDAY! So I call back and pushed another button to get customer service. I got referred to one person after the other. Finally, I got a rude dude on phone. He told me don't worry...we won't bill you again until January. I told him I didn't want that...I want to cancel service. Please do so, and provide me with a confirmation number. He kept on and on and finally I said that I would contact my attorney if I had to. He said hold on, I'll let you speak to them. OMG! We went on and on.... I asked to speak to his supervisor. He said they weren't taking calls...very smartass. I finally got a confirmation number but I have doubts that this was cancelled. I'll be checking my monthly statement and there better not be a charge. I just thought I'd throw this out in case some of you are considering using this company for internet service. We had good service but if you can't communicate with them, the good service is useless in my opinion. Anyone else have problems with them?

1. webeishere (11171) | 1 year ago | I had a similiar p[roblem way back meany years ago cancelling AOL. What I did immediately after the basic run around with so called "customer service" of AOL was I called my credit card company ordering them not to accept any charges from AOL as of such and such date. Try that. It helps. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

2. OreoCookie3 (14506) | 1 year ago | I have a story too! I never even used People PC and I was being charged for it. The thing is I helped my friend out once with my credit card to pay their bill. I was spending the weekend with them and needed the internet, and they had been cut off for not paying their bill. So I pay their bill and for months afterward I was being billed for the internet service. I tried several times to resolve the matter and I kept getting messed with and every month I kept getting money taken out of my account. I stopped my card and got another one and still I kept getting charges. Afgter that I threatened my bank to pull out my money and they then canceled my account and reopened it to stope People PC from messing with my account.

Inazumi (506) | 1 year ago | See, this story seems a little weird to me, as a lot of companies will not accept payment from someone else's credit card. I have a joint credit account with my mom, and I misplaced my card. I had her call in the payment, only to have the representative tell her that she couldn't make it because they had no way of knowing if she was really herself and not me pretending to be her. -_-; Guess People PC isn't as picky about where their money comes from, or how many chargebacks they receive because of situations like this. I'm sorry it took so much effort on your part to resolve it. They shouldn't have made your number the saved payment method for that account. I hope you were able to get those funds back. I usually don't have many nice things to say about prepaid debit cards because of the fees associated with getting them and/or using them, but in this situation it might have been a good thing to have instead of a debit/credit card.

OreoCookie3 (14506) | 1 year ago | I got it all back but about $20, and I just said to heck with it... but I couldn't talk to these people... they talked like the account was mine and I kept telling them it wasn't mine. I remember my last call with them I told them to make sure they cancel that account with my card number... and they say "well we need to keep their email account open".. I said NO...you cancel it now or I will press charges for fraud on your part... they act like they can't understand English... The next day is when I called my bank for the 3rd time about this and they had to completely cancel my account and start over with a new card... just issuing me a new card without canceling the account wouldn't stop their claiming payment... the bank tried to explain it to me... something about they did multiple charges automatically on my card... and then to find out that my friend had canceled his account with them anyway...and they were STILL charging me for their account.

3. milott (2586) | 1 year ago | I have had a similar problem with an online storage service long time back, when I cancelled my membership even before the trial period, they still went on to bill my credit card, but when sent a mail to them, they eventually paid me back realizing the mistake. I would suggest you to persist on them by sending mails again and again, you would succeed.

5. marabdl86 (574) | 1 year ago | wow! thanks for that! I get paid to sighn up for offers and i was thinking of trying out people pc for about a month just to make 20 dollars minus the 5.49 charge= 14.50 profit. But thank you for persuading me otherwise. I hate dial up and that's a shocker that the guy was so rude to you and didn't help you. I guess there all angry because their business sucks. Maybe they should look into getting dsl as well because most ppl now prefer faster internet, and he must have felt angry everyone was cancelling their membership. Hopefully he took you serious and you no longer get charged. Goodluck:)

7. Inazumi (506) | 1 year ago | I never have used People PC, but after seeing so many negative responses to this discussion, I would not use them even if dial-up was my only option for Internet access and they were the only provider servicing my area! What a positively dreadful way to treat customers. I can't say that I am surprised, though--it seems like the companies that provide services so cheap are always lacking when it comes to customer service. It's very good that you got the confirmation number for your cancellation, but I have to agree with what a lot of the other people have said in their responses: call your credit card company or bank as soon as possible. Tell them that you have canceled your service, but have reason to believe that they may not stop charging you for the service. Have them flag your account or set it up to automatically decline any charges that People PC might attempt--and see if you can get a notification if they do try to bill you. It may be possible that they will try to file a report of non-payment with a credit bureau, so in the event that that happens, send them a letter about it immediately telling them that you canceled your service on [date], your confirmation number is [#], and they'd better reverse the charges IMMEDIATELY and make no further attempt to charge you for your canceled service or you WILL be referring all further communication to your attorney. :) I had to go through some hoops when I canceled my EarthLink dial-up service--No, I would not like to get the personalized email address, I'm canceling my service because I have gotten DSL through another company, Yes, I am aware that EarthLink does DSL as well--can you give it to me for less than $35 per month? No? Then I am not interested to switching to EarthLink DSL. It's all standard--they don't want to see a customer leave. But to be rude to a subscriber (it sounds almost like he thought you were canceling because you couldn't afford the service...), refuse to let you speak with a supervisor, then give you a hassle over your confirmation number... yeah. Nothing says "go spend your hard-earned money elsewhere!" quite as well as that!

8. Sacrificialclam (4487) | 1 year ago | I haven't dealt with PeoplePC, but I did go around and around with AOL. The thing I hate about AOL is that ALL of their customer service reps are outsourced and I have a hard time understanding them on the phone. My account was suspended, not once but 4 times in 2 days. I got to unlock my account 2 times without calling, but the last two times, I had to call and speak to someone who could barely speak English. I posted the following. 1. I got my ears pierces, all times with an ear piercing gun. a. Guess "gun" is a bad word. 2. I live near Jonesboro, where the tornadoes were. b. Gave out "Personal" information, yet some chick can post her full name, SSN, address and 2 phone numbers wanting to be contacted by CSI producers to get a spot on the show and she's fine? 3. A bunch of us were posting jokes on the boards and I posted that a poster got her jokes from www.badinternetjokes.com which is not even a real site. c. New rule -- don't post links. 4. Made the comment that I was going to hell for sinning. d. Hell is a bad word evidently. So on the 4th time my account was suspended, I canceled them. Told AOHell where to go and how to get there. They tried to get me to stay by giving me a few months of service free. Um no. Thanks, but no thanks.
