Are they telling us Santa is a druggie? |
|
With all the stupid malarky going around about defimation of Santa for kids sake, i.e. he can't say HO HO HO but HA HA HA and he can't be chubby anymore so as not to encourage obesity....I was looking through a popular women's magazine and saw an ad for Advil pain reliever. In big green letters in the middle of the page it says - "I'm All Advil" and then has pictures of Santa and him saying "It's my how-can-I-do-all-this-in-one-night pain reliever" and "It's my sit on Santa's knee pain reliever" and "its my boy-this-is-heavy pain reliever" and "It's my sliding-down-the-chimney pain releiver". Good grief! All Santa does is take pain pills! We'd better make Santa not work so hard. IF he keeps working this hard, kids will think it is okay to take drugs because "Santa does". Maybe he can just do some emails instead of the knee sitting and some virtural gift cards instead of sliding down the chimneys and carrying heavy loads of gifts all night long. Or maybe bored adults that think up this junk could just leave the jolly old fellow alone and enjoy the smiles he brings to our kids!!!!! Yes, I vote for that!!!

1. drannhh (5966) | 1 year ago | Yah know, I'd be more than willing to let ads like that slide EXCEPT that when Santa does exactly what he is supposed to do and that is be a jolly round elf who goes around saying "Ho, ho, ho" and promoting good behavior, we've got weenies whining. No, I don't think they ought to be using Santa to promote drugs, legal, or otherwise, but this is a kind of morality it is hard to legislate. So instead of whining about this, I'll just keep whining about that other, lol. Good catch!

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | If all that other malarky hadn't been hovering around, plus the part about Sesame Street being bad for kids - you know, Cookie Monster promotes obesity, Oscar the Grouch promotes the will to live in a garbage can and if a kid is seen on a Brownstone home - that encourages "slumming", I wouldn't even have given this a second thought. Might have grinned at the thought, "yeah, good ol' fellow does work rather hard and could use a little help" but would have not tought any more about it, but this recent uproar to defimate Santa and say he is causing problems to the kids, when it is just the parents looking for an excuse to not take repsonsiblity to teach their kids properly, it just sticks in my craw that they are doing this. That is why I compare it to things they do allow to get people to see how stupid it is and leave Santa and the kids alone. It's kind of like "do as I say, not as I do" and the kids are the ones that pay the price! Okay, off my soap box!

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | Of course not lie to the kids. But let them have their imaginations to create with. Don't stifel their imaginations. You can let them "belive" in Santa and other things, it is all in how you present them and how much YOU make of it. Preach it and they will retain. Suggest it and they will consider. Chat about it and they will play along too! My 7 yo old GD belives in Santa for her own self, although I believe this is her last year of that belief, but also belives that he is only for kids. Santa will bring her a stocking but she gets to bring stockings to mommy and Nanny. She gets one gift from santa, the rest is from family. But I firmly believe that kids should be allowed to be kids - this world has them growig up far to fast and missing so much of their childhood and being a kid.

arr_781984 (1242) | 1 year ago | Thanks for the br. And to a point, I agree with you. Kids should be allowed to be kids but not when it sacrifices their well being. I was lied to a lot as a kid and not just about those fictional characters. I had a lot of grief growing up and it has made me not want to tell lies like that to my kids. Allowing them to believe that fictional characters are real is just as good as lying to them in my opinion. I will tell my kids about santa but I'll be sure to tell them that he is fictional, not real. That's just my view but to each their own. I am not one to tell other people how to do things. That's just me.

3. kurtbiewald (2588) | 1 year ago | yeah, and a red suit and beard (a commie), and sneaking into people's houses at night, and smoking a pipe with who knows what in it from some random old hippie who was ranting about it one time

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | Kurtbiewald - thank you SO MUCH for this laugh this morning! I sure needed to start the day with one! I hadn't thought about the sneaking into houses part or the red suit. Wow - these goof balls really missed the biggest parts didn't they? They really need to raise their children properly instead of expecting other to do it and then complain about it!

4. spiderlizard22 (2158) | 1 year ago | Santa's image and greeting won't change. Too many people already like Santa the way he is. Those who want a skinny santa to say ha ha ha will not get it.

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | I certainly hope it will stay the same! But with everyone suing everyone so as not to have to accept responsibility, I don't know. I watched the Radio City Music hall Rockets Christmas program on TV last night and they had a Santa in one of the skits and sure enough, he said Ha Ha Ha instead of Ho Ho Ho.

5. wolfie34 (12565) | 1 year ago | The tradition of children going to see santa has been going on since the year dot, it takes certain sick minds to paint santa in a different picture, only to become kiljoys and politically correct, the world has indeed gone mad! A skinny lady saying ha ha ha just doesn't have the same affect does it? Bah humbug, they'll try to ban Christmas next because if offends someone, somewhere! Oh boy what a lovely fooked up world we live in now! Didn't see your discussion before mine and thank you for the link!

7. BayleighGray (1793) | 1 year ago | Hi Coffeebreak, I don't think I would have ever associated Advil with drugs. I mean yes it's definition is a "drug" but when I think of drugs or druggie, I think cocaine, heroin, alcohol, narcotic pills and the such. I'm not really sure I saw the connection as you did. Unless I'm reading your statement here without any sarcasm on your behalf. If I have, my apologies. LOL Bay Lay Gray xx

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | Its a drug...period. Not as serious as others, but a drug none the less. ANd the point is that they are picking Santa apart for no reason - Ha Ha Ha instead of Ho Ho Ho because there is another slang meaning to the word "ho"? He is chubby so he is promoting obesity in kids? He smokes a pipe so he is promotinng smoking? Come on, surely you see that. And since Advil is a common household item, kids can find it in any drawer in the bathroom or mom's purse and first they see mom take it and now Santa takes it, guess it is something they can take too! SO they take a bunch of the pills, it makes them horribly sick and to the hospital to get their bellies pumped. Second point is...I was making the point of... see how stupid it is to trash something for no intelligent reason and expect people to go along with it? It goes both ways, you know.

BayleighGray (1793) | 1 year ago | Well I see you have certainly put a lot of thought into this. No I don't see all these scenarios that you mentioned. Sorry. I guess your right, those things could happen. I'd hope that kids that are at an age to know wether santa is real or fictional would not be influenced to do things suching as smoking or taking some Advil more than the recommended dose. If they are that young, medicine cabinets shouldn't be open for them to get this sort of thing without the parents knowledge. Oh and the obesity, um don't you think that parents should be controlling that, not the image of Santa Clause. I would hope that I was tendig to my child's meals and not themselves. Bay xx

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | You're missing the whole point of this. People are saying that santa being plumb is encouraging kids to be overweight! They are saying the santa saying ho Ho HO is not appropriate for kids to say as that ho word is derogatory to woman and they don't want kids to hear it. They want to stop santa from smoking a pipe, cause they say it encourages kids to do the same. The whole thing is so stupid, it just a way for people to not have to take repsonsibility for teaching their kids properly and put if off on someone/thing else. I'd be willing to be no kid ever said, "I want to be fat like Santa". But instead of taking the parentak responsibility and teaching their kids how to eat healthy and take care of themselves, they prefer to not be a good parent and just blame their kids weight problem on someone/something else and that gets them off the hook. Why else would they make such an ordeal over an imaginary figure?
| |
|
|
BayleighGray (1793) | 1 year ago | Ok well now I'm just really confused on wether you AGREE with this or you DISAGREE with this. The initial post sounded lik you agree'd with those scenarios, now this last one seem's you don't. So I'm still going with my original opinion and saying that it's still silly and I don't think any of those things will be a result of an Advil ad with Santa Clause in it, or any other ad with Santa doing any of the other things you mentioned. I'm sure when children get to the age to know that this is NOT a real person, and have access or ability to do any of the things you mentioned will know the difference between doing it and not doing it and why. That's my point...maybe your not getting mine. Bay xx

coffeebreak (3433) | 1 year ago | My point: LEAVE SANTA ALONE> Leave kids to their own imagination. Let kids have their childhood fantasies. Don't tear apart the little happiness'ss kids have these days. Don't use Santa to be the "excuse" for bad parenting. My comments were stated in a stupid silly fashion in comparison to the whole issue being is so stupid and silly in the first place
