Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

I guess I have to listen to the whole song, a couple times through. I haven't fallen in love with what I've heard, but it must be something special to have been such a hit!

They mentioned Kurt's death, such a shame. It must have affected a lot of fans, he seems to still be somewhat of a legend.

I've only ever heard the song on this countdown. Not on the radio, and not on my own. I actually don't know if I've ever heard ANY Nirvana song! I guess it's time for me to finally listen to it!

Well, I finally heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and I like it. I imagine the second listening will be better. I may or may not Google the lyrics so I can figure out what's been said... but still, love the sound! It's definitely not a song you can sit still while listening to!;D

I had to listen to it! The song was on my mind for days because of that countdown, so I'm glad I finally got to hear the whole song. Gave me a better taste for it.

I suppose I can't say whether or not I'm a fan yet. I'm not really into grunge music, but my taste varies more on the band and/or song more than the type.

That's what I got from the show... that the band, Kurt, and the song have all influenced music and the music industry in some way. They talked about the song and the band more than they played the music video, so I only got a small taste of it. It was decent, but nothing I'd think would be huge. And like you said, I think Kurt's death effected the response to some degree as well.

Although I don't understand most of the words being sang, it has a great sound to it! I don't love it, but I definitely like it!

Also... Teen Spirit was a line of toiletries and fragrances that were popular with kids at the time... I don't know if that helps!LOL! Most grunge music is about not fitting in, about being insecure about ones place in the world... there is teenage angst in many of the songs.
Try songs like Heart-Shaped Box, or Come As You Are... they ease you into Nirvana, and let you appreciate the skill they brought to their music.

They definitely have a great sound to them, even if the lyrics themselves aren't magical on their own.

I only realized that when I did the math! lol I suppose an 8-9 year old girl won't be listening to grunge/rock music!;D

I don't even know what radio stations come in here anymore. There's the main one, but it mostly just plays pop music and oldies... I'll have to download the song, otherwise I won't end up hearing it anytime soon.

By the time I hit that age, all I got was that crappy pop craze, lol. Grunge music has/had more passionate, even if it was more angst than anything else.

I guess I was too young when it first came out to give it enough thought. Too bad, I probably would have appreciated it during high school years. A shame that he passed away so young, he'll live on through that song, no doubt.
