 Have any of you been to a "pain clinic"?
I am in so much pain, on meds, but I have pain in my back, knees, hips, neck. And about 7 yrs ago I fell and have a disabled foot because of that fall.
What does a "pain clinic" do for you? I can't and WON'T come off pain meds. My life would not be worth living if that happened. I AM NOT a 'druggie', just truly in a lot of pain. Even the pills just ease the pain, not take it away.
So has anyone of mylot friends been through this Hell?

I think I would try the acupunture first.
As you say the pain clinic may take your meds away.
I do not know anything at all about pain clinic's, so can not advise you there.
I would be tryng other avenue's before the pain clinic.
I would keep it as my last resort.

2.  carolbee (4497) | 8 months ago |  I have never been to a pain clinic but have seen a pain management doctor for bulging discs. I am sorry you are feeling so bad.
I had 3 epidurals within the past 6 months and although it helped, it didn't cure my problem. Also was in physical therapy for 3 months. The therapy did help relieve some of the pain. I took Advils and they did no earthly good. Nothing much helps a pinched nerve which is what the basis of my problem was and still is off and on.
I also had a bad fall 5 years ago ice skating and the therapist thinks this is the end result.
I am so sorry you are in so much pain and hope the clinic helps you in some way.

I also have had several nerve blocks, which didn't help AT ALL.
Like I told Goodie, I won't go to the pain clinic...yet. I HAVE to know more about them first, and I really can't see how they can help. Bad attitude I know, but I have been through so much, that I can't stand anyone touching me now.

I've not personally been to a pain clinic but my understanding is that they evaluate your level of discomfort and find ways to manage it better. I don't think they would want to just pull your pain meds but they may be able to help you learn some alternative treatments that would make it possible to use less meds.
I know that physical therapy to build up certain parts of my body has really reduced my back pain. And they taught me ways to do various tasks in ways that protect my back.
I suggest you go if you can and see for yourself. There may be ways to make your life more comfortable. And that's a good thing.

I need to get more information about a pain clinic. So I will call Tuesday, the Clinic my Dr wants me to go to, and without giving my name, I will ask them what they do to help with this much pain. That way I haven't commited to it. I can't see how they help.

I cannot imagine the constant pain you speak of. That would be totally horrible and downright miserable. I am so sorry you have to go through that.
I sure hope you find something about about the clinic and I sure hope it is something that would be helpful to you.
