Little Bryan Ruda hopped off the bus and headed to his kindergarten class sporting a new hair-do and was promptly suspended. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23369157/?Gt1=10856

School officials say that the six year old's mohawk was a distraction to other students, while mom states this is discrimination.

The school gave mom 3 warnings to change his hairstyle before suspending the boy. His mother had refused to comply, stating that she will be enrolling the boy in a different school.

Personally, I would cut his hair before disrupting his school placement, what about you?

Who is right, the school or the mom?

It depends. If it clearly states in the school handbook that kids cannot have any inappropriate hairdos including a Mohawk, then the school is right in suspending the child, no matter if the child is a kindergartener. It is not discrimination. It is called following rules. However, if the mom can prove that there is no where in the school handbook that says that her son cannot have a Mohawk, then that means that the school suspended the boy wrongly based on the fact that is was inappropriate to the school administrators. Basically suspending the boy, just because they did not like the boy's hairdo.

I saw a bit of this on the news last night.

I see both sides. Mom kept going on about not wanting to suppress his individuality and all that, and sure, I can see that. But the child is 6!

It was clearly stated in school rules that things like clothing, etc, that caused disruption in the classroom are not allowed. As such, I agree with the school.

He wasn't in high school where crazy things are no longer crazy, but the norm. He is 6 yrs old and anything like that is likely to cause young children to focus on those things, ask questions, poke fun, etc, and yes, cause distraction/disruption.

A 6 yr old doesn't need to be the focus of this sort of thing. Cut the child's hair and move on.

Personally,if I have a child, I would let my kid have his hair done like that. If the school's regulations does not permit their students to sport such a hairdo, then why make your kid in trouble? Sure, everyone of us has rights, or anything for that matter, but there are certain things that everyone must consider.

Oooops...another typographical error! I would NOT let my kid to sport such a hairdo...
