Hamantashens

I thought I had my recipe on the computer, but I can't find it, I was told mine are very good. But here is a link to one somewhat like mine, except I use butter instead of oil..I also found also one with chocolate cookie dough and with fillings like peanut butter, I might try that one too..

Anyways, these are cookies that the Jews make for Purim and they are in the shape of Hamans hat..(Purim is a festival celebrated from the book of Ester)

No Raz, you don't have to make a choice. So the poppyseed ones are really good? I haven't tried it with poppyseeds, which is why I am thinking of making those this year..

They are to me but it is all a matter of personal taste.

Hmmmm...I might have had the poppyseed ones. What other kind of filling is in it? It wasn't just poppyseeds, was it?

I believe it is poppyseed and honey, but Raz may know more on that than I do..I was just going to google a poppyseed filling when I make mine.

D, it really could have been anything because it all depends on who is making them and what their taste is but the most traditional fillings are apricot, prune, cherry, poppyseed. I always pass on the prune ones.



BTW for anyone who is thinking eww no way answer this question... Do you eat thumbprint cookies? They are basically the same thing just shaped differently

You are funny Raz.. But the poppyseed filling, that is mixed with honey correct? To give them a sweeter taste and better texture to place inside the hamantashen?

Sorry, I see now that I didn't add that honey is part of the poppy seed filling mixture like I thought I had.

1 c. poppy seed
1/2 c. water or milk (use water if you want to make them parve)
1/4 c. honey
2 tbsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1 lg. egg, slightly beaten

I prefer milk but since my sister and parents both still keep a kosher house and they are the ones that make the Hamantashen I usually have ones made with water. Gotta be able to eat them after a dairy meal or a meat meal my sisters 3 always remind me LOL

Oh yes, the kosher way would be the water, I always forget about the dairy/meat thing and I struggle with it too, because I love a cold glass of milk with my hamburger..
