What was the last rumor spread about you? |
|
In the course of walking my dog today I found out (make a long story short) that a lot of people in my complex, most I don't know, are under the impression I have cancer. Where I live a lot of people are on disability, and I do have severe health issues. I was quick to set the person straight about the cancer issue. I said I didn't have it, and didn't know where someone got that idea. It's not a big deal, I just don't want anyone in the place who actually cares about me to think I'm suffering from something so horrible as cancer. Which made me think of rumors is general. What is the last rumor that was spread about you?

1. rjscott (2309) | 7 months ago | To be honest, I don't know. I have a sneaking suspicion certain folks have been asked (told) not to reply to discussions I've begun ... but it's only that ... a suspicion based on something one member told me. I don't take part in gossip, neither coming nor going. Memo to self: Don't sweat the small stuff. (C) 2008 RJScott

lecanis (7207) | 7 months ago | *giggles* The funny thing for me is that it doesn't matter what I weigh... I look about the same no matter what it seems. I've lost or gained up to 30 lbs. before people started noticing, so the idea that someone would think I was pregnant is even funnier to me because usually no one notices my weight. Hehe, when I actually*was* pregnant, I kept being accused on being not only unwed, but also a teenager, neither of which were true. It cracked me up how many complete strangers felt the need to talk to me about my pregnancy, and assumed because I wasn't wearing my wedding ring (didn't fit my finger) and I look young that they knew all about my "situation".

4. sparkofinsanity (1918) | 7 months ago | For me it's always the same one, but I only hear it when I call my mother. She swears, and has for years, that I am just a figment of her imagination as she would never have raised one such as I. And yes, that's exactly how she talks, so she could be right! lol

7. jennybianca (5864) | 7 months ago | I dont recall any rumours being spread about me. Unless I count the bs my step children biological mother tells them. Probably as I am 50, & dont mix much with my neighbours, rumours are less likely to be an issue. I can understand the innocent rumour that went around about you having cancer. People must have noticed that you had health problems, and human nature being what it is, people have to imagine the worse. At least you put it straight.

8. dfn12968 (5580) | 7 months ago | Wow, I would hate for people to think I was ill like that, AmbiePam. I would not want people to worry about me. I had so many rumors about me spread when I left my job with Marriott. It was really a nightmare. My boss embezzled a lot of money, and the rumor was that I was in on it. I lost my job over it. Not a good situation.

9. pyewacket (8521) | 7 months ago | Well number one...my mother was famous for spreading out right lies about me to perpetuate her woebegone poor me victim mode...I got this from a friend of mine who starting telling me all the crap my mother was dishing out to people...one that "Oh, my daughter is agoraphobic...she never goes out? I used to get a complex cause when I would go out bump into someone we knew, they would say "oh, Melanie, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you out HERE." I mean this happened every time I ran into someone...and I'm like WTF?? What's the big deal? But then I understood when my friend told me...my own mother was making me sound like a blithering idiot that never did anything with my life...she also seemed to neglect telling people I had been a successfully published photographer at one point, did my crafts..the way she made me sound was as if I just stayed at home staring at the walls and contemplated my navel all the time. The worse lie/rumor she spread was this---in her last few years of life my mother lost a lot of weight were before she was always uh, chunky?? It was a neighbor of mine who I bumped into...she said your mother is losing an awful lot of weight...so I told her why...my mother was doing a bulimic thing---she eat her meals, race into the kitchen (closer than the bathroom) and stick her finger down her throat to purge...but my neighbor told me...that's not what your mother told me...she told me you never feed her that you're starving her....god knows how many people believed this shat--so in effect my mother was the greatest in spreading rumors about me... Another winner...this same neighbor was the one who once said and this was a little after my mother died..that gee, you're doing well for yourself...your mother left you about $100,000...WHAT?? She did, when? Where? To who??? Oh how I wish!!! I suspect I know the source of this rumor...another neighbor of whom my mother borrowed a lot of money from was for some twisted reason swore somehow that my mother had "secret" accounts all over the place...Oh how I wish..LOL

10. Debs_place (5636) | 7 months ago | My boss actually told my coworkers that I was a drug seeker, and that they should keep an eye on me when I pass meds. This was totally amazing, since I am working with developmentally disabled adults and I got researched and finger-printed to death to get the job therefore the probability of that being true is 0 and none. Not to mention, him and I have nothing and common and there is no way that he could have that knowledge of me from anywhere. Plus it definitely is not true.

AmbiePam (10642) | 7 months ago | He said that, and he is still your boss? I don't know how people work with the likes of people like that. I guess there is little choice.

Debs_place (5636) | 7 months ago | Yes, no one stays with that boss very long. I am trying to get a transfer, one of the girls I work with her last week with him is this upcoming week. One of the guys is staying until June when he finishes school and another person is looking into a different field.
