Do you sing in the church choir? Or a rock band? Or wish you did? |
I have sung since I was too little to walk and I love music of all kinds. I used to sing in church but haven't for awhile although I would like to again. Does anybody sing in a choir and do you like it or does it get old singing what the director likes? Or a band? I would have dearly loved to sing in a band when I was younger!! How cool would that be! So tell me your experiences and why you sing and where...in the shower? In the car? (guilty!!)

1. maxsee212 (462) | 6 months ago | i wish i was part of the choir in the church because i want to sing for god and i think singing is good for your mental health. unfortunately, i was born with a mediocre voice. i can sing but there are notes that i can't sing because my vocal chords can't do it. it is an amazing thing to hear beautiful singing in the church. it is like hearing angels from heaven.

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Well like my wonderful music teacher said...practice,practice,practice!! A vocal chord is a muscle of sorts and it needs a work out. So just keep trying and maybe some day you will! God Bless!

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Oh my gosh that is sooo funny! I love stories like that! We went to a bar a long time ago to karaoke with some friends and a friend of ours wife put his name in to sing the "abc" song. He didn't know it and so this other guy came up and tried to help but He didn't know it either! So this Elvis impersonator came up and helped them! It was too funny! Later another friend of ours sang an Elvis song so well that the impersonator came up and shook his hand! We just kept yelling for him to get the suit from him!

ellie333 (4702) | 6 months ago | Well sounds like you all had a really good night too! Whenever I think of this evening it always makes me giggle, I am surprised we both didn't give birth that night everyone was laughing so much. Thats lovely that the Elvis impersonator came over and shook your frineds hand though, just goes to show he appreciated his talent rather than got jealous of it as some do. Ellie:D

| angeltalk9 (5) | 6 months ago | Mcbuttero, My favorite sound in the world - yes, it may seem odd - is hearing someone singing their heart out - esp. when they really can't sing well - but don't care, cause they just gotta sing! the joy that pours through is magical! I grew up in the catholic church. My parents moved us around a lot, so I experienced a lot of churches. Some congregations sing, some are just not into it. I love the ones that sing. Now I am a Pagan and I really love sing outside especially at night under a magical moon or early in the morning at sunrise - better than a cup of coffee!

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Exactly! I think God must think we are a pretty good choir down here and I don't think he minds a bit when I can't figure out the notes! Anyway I haven't heard any complaints yet! Ha Ha!!!

5. jairgirl (924) | 6 months ago | i used to sing at the church when i was a kid ( i have no choice im a student there) and then been part of the glee club and the church's choir. i love all kinds of music and though i think i have a terrible voice i still find it relaxing if i lay on the floor or in bed and just sing my favorite songs, it gives so much warmth to my heart and it really enlightens me. when i was in high school i compete with like singing competition (duet) and i could swear that is the most embarrassing moment of my life,,, (thanks for reminding me, bad bad!!! - haha!) you must have a very good voice to consider joining a band, that will be so cool! btw, i am guilty of all you mention (and more) takecare!

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Oh man I'm way too old to do that any more unless Crosby Stills and Nash decides that they want a chick in the band I guess I'm outa luck! Ha Ha!! I do love to sing but it's more work to keep it up than it used to be. Besides I get terrible stage fright!
| |
jairgirl (924) | 6 months ago | LOL, i dont think age really matters, hahaha! that would be fun though (my imagination is working, haha!)my husband and i sings in the car or at home sometime and we do really sound like frogs in the pond, haha! oh, i am so full of stage freight i hate being on stage and talking to A LOT of people, i can make a conversation in a normal manner but please not on the stage, haha! anyway, keep singing maybe one of these days someone will discover you:) good night!

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Wow...I doubt that! I love to sing but my friend Earleen doesn't understand why I don't like to sing in front of people. She admits that she is a "ham" and I keep telling her that everyone sings for a different reason. I sing just for the joy of it. Not necessarily to have others hear it. Maybe that is a true sense of what the joy of singing is. I don't think you have to have a great voice to sing. I just think you have to love to in order to enjoy it to the fullest!.
| |
jairgirl (924) | 6 months ago | hahaha, really? kidding aside, i have to agree that we all sing for a different reason and we dont have to have a good voice to be able to sing, all we need is love (la la laa - the beatles!) when i sing a song, it puts me to this serene place and i can just close my eyes and relax. my husband likes the fact that i am singing coz he knows i am very happy then, haha! if i am just listening to a song/music,,, then he is a bit worried (ok a lot) coz he knows i am on my down moment... the power of it ei? takecare!
| |
hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | I agree....singing is a very personal thing. My friend loves to sing to please others; I love to sing to please myself. I also love to sing to God. I guess it's everyones own thing!!
| |
jairgirl (924) | 6 months ago | i concur! it's our own business,,, just bad when we sound like a frog and others are suffering wishing they can mute you, hahaha! oh well, my own right ei? keep up the song,,, it is one of the food for our soul! takecare
| |
hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Amen to that! I hope you will always sing my friend...for everything you feel in your heart and soul and I hope that it comforts you as much as it does me! Blessings!

6. teeaye98 (124) | 6 months ago | I sing in a number of different fashions. Like you, I have been singing since I've learned to talk. What's funny is that my daughter is 2 she she has been singing since she has learned to talk. Lately I've been singing in the church choir. I also do over dubs for recording artist in the area. I have sang in my college choir, for the United Way, for the NAACP, and many others. I have done back ground for many recording artist in their live concerts as well. The thing is, I've done a lot of my singing for free (including the recording artists). I've found out that some recording artist are cheap. But when it comes to singing the gospel, I'd do it for free anyway!

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | AWESOME! I would love to do what you have done! I too would sing for free when it comes to singing in my church! I imagine I'm a stock amateur when it comes to you but my hats off! I am impressed and in awe of this kind of talent! Congrats!

7. ucancallmedissy (2471) | 6 months ago | I don't sing in public, ever! When I was in elementary school and junior high school, a teacher makes every one of us sing in front of the class and it makes me want to run! My voice gets shaky and trembling whenever I try to sing in public. I don't even sing in a karaoke with friends. Ugh..,,,I only sing when I'm alone and it's not even out loud, afraid of somebody would hear.

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | That is too bad! I think your voice might be better than you think but an uncaring teacher started you off wrong! So sad! I think that like me stage fright is something that just happens when you aren't confident enough. I learned to not be so scared by being with someone who is confident. It might help you too!

9. OreoCookie3 (13374) | 6 months ago | We don't have a choir in our church now.. we have congregational singing, but in my other church I was in the choir. I am not a professional singer, I can't read notes, but I can follow the notes by sight reading.. not know what the notes represent, but being able to follow anyway by ear.

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Oreo that's me too! I have a form of dyslexia that causes me problems recognizing things like notes etc.. I had a lot of trouble learning to read and things like that. But my friend is always impressed that I can learn a song with my part and the melody by two times through. I think that is because I had to learn quickly. I am glad you wrote! Thanks!

| 10. angeltalk9 (5) | 6 months ago | I grew up singing too. In fact, if I am not doing music of some kind in my life, I don't quite feel like myself. I sang in church choirs and was in a "band" for a short while. We played for friends and family mostly. Once we played at a funeral for someone we knew. One of our members wrote a song, part in Irish - it was beautiful. The Irish know how to do melancholy! The most difficult singing I ever did was for a friend, whose baby died of SIDS. I was ok until I saw the tiny little coffin come down the church isle. I tried to keep the tears back, but couldn't sing - so I just let them fall and tried to offer as much comfort as I could to my friend through the song. Music is healing

hornswaggled (871) | 6 months ago | Oh how sad...My friend Earleen is such a beautiful singer and she has sung many a funeral at our church and many others in our town. I cannot see how she does it! I can't do it. I can't sing at all when I get upset. My throat closes and because music is so emotional to me I couldn't do this. I wish I had the capabilities to do it because you are right that it can be a wonderful gift to the family but not with me. Thanks Angel for letting us know your very special talent!
