The creation of the world/universe... |
|
Do you believe the world was created in seven days about 5760 years ago? or do you believe the world is billions of years old(about 4.6 billion)? and do you believe in evolution? I believe the world aged at about 4.6 billion years and I believe in evolution altough I was raised to believe in the bible(Old testament). I'd like to hear your opinion...

1. jillbeth (1932) | 6 months ago | I believe in Creation, but not necessarily the seven days as we know them. To God, a day is as a thousand years, or something to that effect. I believe God set the universe in motion. Scientists talk about the "Big Bang," a sudden explosion of light and energy that was the beginning of the universe. The Bible says "And then there was light." Can't they be refering to the same thing? Why couldn't evolution play a part in that creation? The problem is too many people get hung up on this issue, without realizing that the only thing we really need to agree on is that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Mythion (113) | 6 months ago | I agree there are many issues science and religion agree with but there are many more sharp contradictions. Believing in an other begining(other then the bible) to the universe is not nessesarly in the Big-Bang THEORY. I've read the bible many times and I think it's the mightest book ever written and the book of my people but I still find it "human"(I am sorry if I am offending anyone, it is not my intention). I still find myself asking "why?" but I guess the answer to that will never be answered.

rebecca1957 (101) | 5 months ago | It would be a good idea to research how Christianity came about. I've been on a quest for over 4 years now and have discovered a lot of things. First of all, all Christians during Jesus time actually converted to Judaism. It wasn't until the year 325 common era when Constantine made all the bishops come together to agree on who Jesus was and what to do about all the various deaths. Deaths such as pagans being killed, Christians being killed, etc. It was during the Council of Nicea that the bishops voted on the deity of Jesus. In the "Old Testament" the Jews were condemned for offering the children to the god Molech. God states that he never even considered human sacrifice. Paganism always had god-men. Christianity has a lot of paganism attached to it. Jesus was chosen by the COuncil of Nicea to draw in the Jews and Jesus birthday was given December 25th to celebrate. Paganism held that date for their sun god's birth. Study god-men and you'll see a lot of parallels with the birth of Jesus and using Jesus to be god. God states in Malachi that "I am God and I change not." If God doesn't change, then how can he suddenly change to be a human? It's curious I think.

2. Pose123 (3161) | 6 months ago | Hi mythion, I believe the earth is millions of years old, in fact we know it is, the idea of a 6000 year old earth is crazy. There may be some truth to evolution, but I don't think we evolved from monkeys. I think that we are spiritual beings, and that includes all beings, not just humans. We do not know enough about such things to say with certainty. We do know that mankind has been here for millions of years. Blessings.

| 3. mykz1130 (50) | 6 months ago | I do believe in creation, that earth was created in 7 days, because that's what the bible say, I do believe that earth, (not the world) is billion years old. I don't believe in evolution it contradict the bible, rather I believe in adaptation. Why did I say that, first we must consider who is talking, we live in earth, therefore 1 day to us is equal to 24 hours earth time, right, how about if you are in mercury, 1 day in mercury takes up 58.6 days here on earth, 1 day in venus is 243 earth day, and so on. Remember God is the creator of the universe, and earth is only a tiny part of it. 1 day to Him maybe a thousand, a million, or even a billion days to us, this for us to realize that God is great and all powerful.

Mythion (113) | 6 months ago | That's true, according to the bible a day to god can be a thousand years but it isn't enough for the universe to create, I took tens of billions of years until earth was created. You also said you think god made earth but no the world(I think you meant the universe) so who did? god made the world and who made the universe? who made god? if he could just be there then so could the universe start in a big explosion. the concept of day does not matter anymore because anyone can chnange its meaning and interpet the term "day" as he likes, the bible allows you to imagine. science brings you a possible answer with evidence and the bible does not. There were many more religions before judaism with their own creation story, how can you say they are wrong? how can you prove your own? nobody can.

4. munhozmib (1694) | 6 months ago | Hello, Mythion. This is a question that I cannot answer. I do not believe in the Bible, because it says that in 7 days the Earth was created, and suddenly the humans appeared from the dirt... I don't believe in it, I believe in the evolution. However, I can't tell you if the Planet Earth was created by the Big-Bang. I have no proof of that. And you will be always asking: where did the Big-Bang come from? It's endless. Perhaps our human minds can't think on a way in which something didn't need a beggining. Can you? Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Mythion (113) | 6 months ago | I agree with you, no one can answer, I was asking for your opinion. To me there is more proof of the big-band and evolution than the 7-days creation, but ultimately nobody can answer.

5. Harley009 (387) | 6 months ago | I don't believe in Evolution. I believe that World was created by God in Six equal Periods. I don't think it was about 5760 years ago, We don't have a proof to say that. World may be aged approx of 4.5 billion years as science predicted. I believe in Quran.

6. ElicBxn (7696) | 6 months ago | I believe in devinely controled evolution. First, do we know how long a day is for God? No we don't. Secondly, the Biblical creation story is virtually the same as the ancient Persian myths. So, while God may have created the world in 7 days, they are God "days" and not ours. Creatures are probably NOT created in the order listed because that list is the same as the Persian order list. But I don't believe that life can spontaniously begin with out the "breath" of God. I believe the "skins" he gave man are the flesh and blood bodies we have now - an up right ape that was in the world, but without the divine "spark" that makes us human. Just my take on the creation story.
| |
| |
|
|
Mythion (113) | 6 months ago | You can't be sure how long is a "god day" it can even be an hour, so using the "God's days are different from our days..." concept is wrong because we just don't know I am just saying I don't think God created the world I don't think there is divine intervention but I do agree that the hebrew creation took inspiration from other cultures(e.g persians).

7. Esoteric1 (549) | 6 months ago | I believe in evolution, I know this world is very old and people have lived on it for tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years in present form. and at least 2-3 million years before that as less intelligent ape like creatures. I do believe in a god and that god possibly set everything in motion but that doesn't mean it was even on this planet to begin with.

8. freethinkingagent (249) | 5 months ago | well here goes, I will in no doubt get in troble here. First, no the earth was not created 6000 years ago and it was not created in 7 days. Ifact the story of creation in the bible if read corectly and taking into account the orageins of the story, it is a tale of "recreation". The earth is sevral billions of years old, it has seen many poulation explosions as well as all out exstinctions. The last ice age inded somewhere about 12,000 years ago. OPne could use a sciantific argument now to say the story of recreation is factual, if taking this time priod of 10,000 BCE and taking the verse that says a day is likened to a thousand years for God, we get a 1000/1 deliniation, or a thousand year day. If you read in origenal hebrew that the earth was NOT made void and without form but BECAME void and without form and darkness covered the face of the deep. In other words the earth became lifless becouse of some cataclismic event like a meteor strick sending tons apon tons of debree into the apmosphere blocking out the suns light and warmth. Science says that after a while the dust settled and the sun began to rewarm the earth, and over a thousand or so years the ice began to melt, then over another malinia land reapiered. The fish and sealife in the warming waters began to expolde with new life, and grass and tree seeds long buried deep in the earth and kept ind cold storage began to germinate and mamles began to make a comeback. At this time man, (cro-magnum) began to be fazed out in favor of a new homo sepian speicies, Moderen Man. It is the same story of the bible, with just differnt words. Plus the fact that the time periods given in the bible are compleatly wrong, remeber Moses is recalling this story some 4000 years after the event the origenal story was told and passed down.
| |
| |
|
|
Mythion (113) | 5 months ago | That's a good theory but I don't think people would have written about event 6000 years before 5760+ BC, I don't think a story will survive that unwritten for that long a time.

10. Pitgull (772) | 5 months ago | The Bible was written years after the world was created. How can they possibly know? The Bible, is also a book written by men promoting an idea. You write a book for a reason and it's almost impossible to write without bias on a topic you believe, or you want others to. Man created time. We have this thing called daylight savings time, because obviously something in our system, is a little off. Evolution, I believe. Fossils and the human appendix, tend to point to fact.
| |
| |
|
|
Mythion (113) | 5 months ago | I agree, one more thing I'd like to add is that there is no "good and evil"(aka duelism) it's just something humans invented and made it a part of most of religions.
| |
|
|
Pitgull (772) | 5 months ago | Free will, you choose to be good or bad. Life is tough enough without believing in some evil power that makes bad things happen. People need to be responsible for their actions and learn that sometimes, bad things happen to good people. These are the tests and trials of life, not some all powerful supremely evil force. Life was never meant to be simple, it is work. I don't believe in satan or the devil or whatever you want to name it. I don't believe in giving "evil" a name and instilling fear into others about some demon that was created to get people to act right.
