This is what they do when their team WINS? |
|
Somebody please explain to me how this makes any sense at all. It is the NHL playoffs (the Rangers beat the Devils woohoo!) and teams are now wrapping up the first round. The Montreal Canadiens beat Boston last night ending that best of seven series (good for them). After the game the fans take to the streets of Montreal to "celebrate". They end up rioting, breaking windows of businesses, committing arson, and other destruction of property. They damage many cars and even SET FIRE TO THREE POLICE CARS!!!!! This is what they do when their team WINS? They wreck up their own city? Where is the sense in that? I wonder what will happen when they LOSE? Of course this kind of stuipidity isn't exclusive to the people in Montreal, it happens in other cities around the world as well (such as Boston for example or pretty much most places where soccer is the big sport) when there is a victory. Why destroy your city and riot and loot when your team WINS? It makes no freaking sense at all. Should't a victory by your home team generate a feeling of PRIDE and inspire you to have a joyous celebration where you do not wreck up the place? When NY teams win (or lose) we do NOT go and destroy property. The only things that gets messed up are the livers of those celebrating with some beers. I remember when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994, it was such a happy time. We went around in a caravan flashing our light and beeping our horns and hugged eachother and just enjoyed the moment. There may have been a few DWI arrests that night, but there were no freaking riots. Somebody please explain to me why people choose to wreak havock and destruction intheir hometown when they WIN. 1. cyntrow (2324) | 5 months ago | That's why I'm glad I don't live in a "hockey town". If the Caps beat Philly tonight and go to the next round, there will be a hell of a lot of celebrating for the fans, but no setting the town on fire. I've never understood it either. Your team wins and you demolish the city. They don't do it when the team loses. That's the amazing part.

cyntrow (2324) | 5 months ago | yes, I remember the Celtic Riot and I think there was a football riot as well, but I can't recall. It's just seems soooo stupid to me. I can't even blame it on the alcohol. alcohol only increases the stupidity of the one inbibing. Meaning there are an alful lot of violent people in the world.

Why in the name of holy hell would they riot when they won? usually when my team wins I celebrate much in the same way you do but I have never set fire to anything or started a riot I wonder what would have happened had their team lost

3. RavenFireMaiden (14) | 4 months ago | Okay, i am from Montreal, and we are just BONKERS for hockey, but you add in the alcohol and you got yourself a destructive mix! Now, dont go knocking on us Montrealers for being a little crazy, its our city and we can destroy it if we want to. And all this, 'when NY wins (or lose) we do not go and destroy property... blah blah blah'' I mean really, you gonna start pointing fingers? Montrealers are known for their passion and spirit, if you cant hack it then dont come visit. I have been here my whole life and i love the city! Some cop cars got damaged, big deal, the prices the Bell Center charged for play off tickets, its like they were preparing for us to freak out. The city will have the Jazz fest and the Just for Laughs and we will be partying on the streets and having a wonderful time. Hockey is in its own catagory, dont mess with the Habs, or we go nutts!

MSV1313 (1351) | 4 months ago | Well if it's OK with the people who actually live there, then that's cool. I haven't been to Montreal, but if I ever go I'll try to make sure it isn't during hockey season. Thanks for your enlightening reply.

| RavenFireMaiden (14) | 4 months ago | I think i should clarify, im not saying its a good idea to go burning cop cars and destroying property, i suppose a felt a little defensive to the original poster putting us in a negative light saying that they don't do crazy stuff where he/she (cannot remember) lives. Theres nuts everywhere, but no one got hurt and it started off in good fun. Crazyness only started after midnight and the game ended by 10. Montrealers are crazy about hockey, though, and that night definitely goes to show it.

MSV1313 (1351) | 4 months ago | I am the original poster, I am a she, and I can be obnoxious sometimes without even trying. Welcome to mylot. You have earned Best Response in this discussion because you provided me with a view from the inside, other than what we see on TV. I only used my part of the world as an example. I'm not trying to claim that NY is superior to anyone, we have our fair share of idiots too. I just used NY as an example because it is what I am familiar with. I have seen people riot in other cities when their team wins as well, it is not exclusive to Montreal. What I don't understand is why riot when happy? To me it would make more sense to wreck up the place when your team loses. And I don't mean you specifically, I mean people in general.

| RavenFireMaiden (14) | 4 months ago | Oh, i didnt realize you were the original poster! im very new to this place:) I dont know why it turned into a riot. It all started in good fun, 50 000 people marching in the streets, happy and being very well behaved... then a few hours later, the bars cleared out and things just got crazy. Also, the most destructive ones were male and between the ages of 17 - 23. Those guys are usually just waiting for an excuse to act out. Testosterone... i dont get it.

Baltek (181) | 3 months ago | What RavenFireMaiden is forgetting to say, is that it's been proven countless times and told by police that the actual rioters, ie the ones who destroyed police cars and stores, were actually an organised group who filmed their acts and got them on youtube, the Montreal game was only a pretext because they knew they would have a perfect opportunity to flee among the fans after they had done their damage. And again, if you saw the footage, most of them are not white, now I ain't racist, but especially in Montreal, people who get on TV for criminal behavior are normally minorities. So those claiming that it was the Montreal fans that rioted, get your facts right before accusing.
