I see your point, but whatever happened to coming to a person and talking to them instead of immediately attacking them by yelling? All he did was put me on the defensive immeditately, making me want to do it more...

Keep in mind too he has never had a problem with my husband having to back up a TOW TRUCK at 2 in the morning, but this bothered him, kind of strange...

Could be you woke him out of a sound sleep (you don't know his schedule) or he wasn't feeling well, or he was on an important phone call. There are a lot of reasons.

It sucks living in close proximity to others. But, since we do, we need to be considerate. I try to make sure my tv and radio are never heard outside my apartment. I don't play my radio loud in the street. I don't honk my horn to get my friends to come out of their house. Because I know that others don't want to know what I am doing. Nor do I want them to know.

I think he doesn't like us because when we moved in, they had a dog outside at night that constantly barked. We tried talking nicely to them, expalining that the dog was waking us up in the middle of the night. They said it was their guard dog, and didn't do anything. So we called the cops, problem solved. I would just like the same respect of coming to me with a problem before turnig it into a fight, you know? Good discussion here so far!

And hubby says he wants me to honk, he has trouble hearing me from our living room, I try to not treat him like a dog TOO often, lol!!

Aaaah. I see. If you want peace and quiet (the dog barking) you darn well should be quiet too. At least that would be his reasoning. I would have complained about the dog too. For the same reason, you get peaceful enjoyment of your home too.

Oh well, it is over now. Just remember, he gets cranky about the honking, so walk in and get your husband's attention.

The problem with neighborhood disputes is that in the end you are still neighbors.

I hear ya, but I think the similarity would be if I were honking at the same time his dog was going on, in the wee hours...this was just after work...just wonder why he was so very crabby about it, but I promise to NEVER honk in front of your house, LOL!

Look if you live in a subdivision, there is a certain amount of noise to be expected.... Hell one of the neighbors I am talking about gets up at the crack butt of dawn on Sunday mornings and starts his woodworking and of course his shed is outside of our bedroom window. But we put up with it because he has a right to do it.

Honking the horn at 5;30 in the evening is not an annoyance. It was not as it she was holding the horn down for five minutes straight. She has as much right to live and pursue happiness as her neighbor does. There are laws in almost every city as to noise curfews, and I have never seen one at 5:30 pm.

No, actually your neighbor does not have a right to do his woodworking in such a way as to disturb you. His right to woodwork stops in your ears, to paraphrase my favorite quote about rights.

Everyone has the right to the quiet enjoyment of their home. No one may make an unreasonable noise at any hour of the day. Noise ordinances are only a way to set up per se (no question it is a violation) violations. Other times of day, you have to prove it by the facts and what a reasonable person finds annoying.

I have told my neighbors that no, they cannot sit right outside my windows playing their music in the middle of the afternoon. The cops enforced it too when I called them when the neighbors refused to turn the music down.

I am sorry I so disagree with you. But I respect that you feel that way. i guess that is why there are retirement villages. Children are going to play, and I am going to have back yard BBQs music games and all.

It really is a matter of tolerance and respect. he gains enjoyment, and he needs his hobby. As much as I dislike how they treat the children I do know he has a right to pursue his life. It would be terribly terribly unkind of me if what you are saying is true to take that away from him.. Sad place to live this would be.

Tally you are for getting something. HAVING to back up a TOW TRUCK and someone just being too lazy are two different things so the level of tolerance should be different.

Just wondering why one bothers him and another doesn't...I just don't see an issue with honking twice quickly to get help unloading the car, and didn't understand why he couldn't talk to me as an adult, especially since we are both adults...I can see it both ways, but feel like as long as it's not laying on the horn, and not at a bad hour, it shouldn't be a big issue...thanks for all the responses!!

PS - I deserve to have one lazy moment in my day, believe me!!

You asked (again) so I will say it again sorry if you can not understand the logic or deal with the truth. One is something that is not a choice and the other is a choice so there is a difference in tolerance level.

I just get my cell phone out and call my husband or the house to get the kids to come outside and help me. I have to agree with the other poster. I don't like being in my house and hearing a car horn blaring. Nearly everyone has a cell phone and they can call or you can take a bag of groceries inside the house when you get the person inside.

But to each his own.

I just can't believe he couldn't be a man and come over to talk to us like adults, we own our homes, we can't be adults too? PS - I always love your posts!! And I will never move to your neighborhood with all that noise, LOL!!

Thanks Tallymommy, I try to post some interesting things..As for moving here, oh no you don't want to do that unless you are rolling in money..Because even though these neighbors do this, I don't say anything and yet years ago when my dalmatian would bark, (8:30 verses 6:30 AM), they would be chicken and instead of talking to me about it, they called the police..

No, I will go to the person first to try and work it out as neighbors before that, wanna move here? Maybe you could buy them out???? PLEASE????

Or you can move here and buy out my neighbors..If you do that I will remove the hedges I planted to block them from seeing my property..

Wow, that's tough!! Hedges just to keep out annoying neighbors, that does give me some ideas, lol!!

Yep, that way they would have to actually be on my property to make any complaints.. But, they are really small right now and tender, I have to carefully keep them watered so they don't like they did last year..

WILL YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR!! What's gonna be funny is when hubby finishes training to be an officer and has a noisy cop car outside the home...and yeah, hubby feels like he can get the groceries out of the car since I shopped, feels that's a fair trade, funniest post yet!!

And yes, this is an elderly couple who wants to have their dog out and keep their lawn looking a mess but wants us to be quiet, aargh!! LOL!!

That's just it, I "beep beep" to get his attention, that's all, I don't lay on the horn or do it morning or night...

No, we don't do anything like that early or late, and are very respectful to keep our yard nice and clean and keep noise levels to a minimum...I have to carry a lot to and from work each day too, and it's nice to have help hauling it all in, especially with a three year old in tow!!

No, it's not everyday, just when I have a bunch of groceries - just wonder why people can't talk nicely to each other anymore, like, oh, NEIGHBORS!!
