Peeved at leagues? email this discussion to a friend?

Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, I'm an HTD for a league (you can find out which one by looking at other posts).

I'm honestly curious as to the hostility expressed towards leagues by some members. I know, I used to express such, but that was when leagues would come into rooms and tell everyone to shut up while they did their things. We try not to do that -- we even tell people to mute us ... but we also work to congratulate the other players who are winning in the room.

Overall, I'd say our league has been pretty well received by the people around us. Maybe it is saying please and thank you to everyone before and after the tourneys. I might also be that a number of our members and TDs make an effort to play in the rooms when there are not tournaments -- so most of us are already regulars before people see the tourney.

Any ideas how we can continue to improve relations?

I'm especially looking forward to hearing from non-league members as to what might make their experience more enjoyable!

Thanks!

hey do,

I dunno, I usually just end up muting tourney directors not because of anything you have done, and I have to say right now that its the dang caps locks....

I think that the one thing that would help with tournies in the room if TD's didn't want the disruptions of chat is to start a private chat, I sometimes really really hate all the encouragement in the tournies, but more than that hte caps locks really bother me, and the advertisements....for the leagues, some TD's will advertise several times during a tournament and annoy people, as the macro that is used really disrupts the chat....

Its gotten a lot better from a year ago, but I have to say that I don't join leagues anymore.....its just not something I can fit into my schedule.

Glad your league is different, maybe someday I will run into you in a room..

Some leagues have given the rest a bad name. They have gone in the rooms and told everyone they must leave or join the league.
Most of it depends on the owner of the league, I have dealt with some other HA's that really didn't seem to know what they were doing or how they should act in Pogo. Of course those leagues never stick around long.
I make sure every TD in my league knows how to conduct themselves in Pogo rooms, especially when that badge is on. When the people in the room start complaining or harassing us we politely ask them to mute us, then my TD's are instructed to mute the complainers so as not to argue.
Usually, the people bothered by us will end up muting us, ignoring us, or leaving the room.
There have been a few times we've had ongoing problems with regulars in the room. One instance I found myself Pogo messaging one of he main culprits (a non league member, regular in the room) and she eventually saw that we were a kind league, and ended up joining our conversations when we were there.
Another time, while searching for a room for a game, I entered the room and asked if there was a league in the room, and got very negative responses towards leagues. The regulars in the room claimed they had no desire for a league in the room and would run us off if we tried to go in there. I sat and spoke with them for a very long time, and eventually reached an agreement that my league could host there in PC. They welcome us when we enter the room, we state our league name and that if anyone wants information to ask for a PC invite. Then we run our tour in PC and never bother them again.
We still occasionally get trouble makers who want to try to run us off, but the majority of the time we get a lot of compliments that we are one of the nicest league some of the non league members have come across.
