To over take or not to overtake? A biker that needs to know! email this discussion to a friend?

I'm an all weather, all year round biker. I love motorcycling in all it's colours. I ride to work and back every day (45 mile round trip on my work hack) and ride for pleasure on the weekends (about 100 miles on my ducati). Now, it's around this time of year that the fair-weather, Power Ranger lookin' weekend warriors start scaring everyone on their overpowered, under controlled crotch rockets. Understandably other road users become nervous and even intimidated by these guys (and gals!) and sometimes even I get quite unnerved when they are around, trying to get a race out of me or just trying to impress.

Bare with me, there is a point to this...:P

All year round some car drivers will generously pull over a little to the side if there's a lot of slow moving traffic to let me pass, each time I make sure I thank them with a hand gesture or nod and carry on, on my merry way. However recently I've noticed a tendancy for some drivers to go to rather extreme measures, drasticly reducing speed, pulling over so far that they're practically driving in the gutter, even stopping in places it's blatantly illegal to do so. There really is no need in my case as I'm quite happy to be a part of the traffic and only really use lane splitting/ white lining when it's just silly if i don't (miles of stationary traffic with an easily navigatable gap between lanes).

At last... the question!

So my question is this, I'm happily sitting in traffic doing just under the speed limit, matching the speed of the car infront and giving him/her plenty of room when he/she pulls to the left, slows down, pulls over some more... etc etc. Should I overtake him/her out of gratitude, possibly proliferating the moto-tard reputation all bikers seem to get tarnished with or stay where i am and try to gesture to them to carry on???
