Never Happened to Me Before!

No I have never experienced this, but I sure will keep this information in my mind so I hopefully will never go through this.

We lost $150 because someone was allowed to add their name to our account. IT was through Costco and American Express. We discontinued the American Express and since Costco isn't really that close to us anymore we dropped our membership to that.

Wow! It is a good thing that they were suspicious and didn't let it go through! I have heard of banks letting that stuff slide and the account holder ends up in the hole.
I have not had this happen to me exactly.
I did have my credit card declined once because my purchase was over $400. I was buying an embroidery machine from Walmart. I had to call the card company right there in line. They had me answer some security questions and then they approved the charge. It was frustrating at the time, but it was good that they checked.
There was another time that my bank called me because there were lots of charges being made with my debit card in another state. It was me though; I was just visiting my family.

Wow...thats shocking. It is important to keep your details up to date. Can you imagine if the bank didnt contact you and authorized it!!! How long would it be before you noticed??

Ive never had something like this happen to me before. It is shocking how easily it can happen, get one digit wrong and someone else could be charged for something.

I have never been contacted by my bank but have had a company take £77 that they weren't given permission to even though I had done a previous transaction with them the month before. As they had my details they just took this other amount. I contacted my bank they stoopped my card immediately and set up a dispute on my behalf and I was given all the money back. I am sorry this has happened to you. Makes you wonder how they got your details. Ellie:D

I've never had this happen to me, did your bank find out how your details were misused? I'm just curious, glad you got it sorted in the end. Lucky you didn't have it in your account otherwise it would have gone and you may have had a problem getting it back!

Yes! I have had to do this 3 times in the last year!! Someone used my card in another state online, & I had to go thru the hassle fo reporting it as fraud, fill out numerous paperwork, & then get a new card...Lori

It has never happened to me that my bank would contact me about my Visa/Master card for a possible suspicious financial activity. I do, however, keep them informed and updated about my contact info whenever there is a change. In fact, I do it with some other services too; specifically, my University, Social service department, my general practitioner, and Prefecture office, since we also have to acquire a new resident card in case we change addresses.

My banker did advise me to have a duplicate account. The lady at the bank advised me to keep a separate account related to my current account where I can always shift most of my money, anytime online, keeping only the necessary amount in my account which is operated by my card. In this way, even if someone tried to use it, immediate loss will be minimum.

I hope they arrested the thief that tried to use your card, it is just unreal, I am glad you got your account changed. I would have too. I just had to change my account because my stupid landlord lost my rent checks and now my information was floating all around the city and I do not like that.

That hasn't happened to me but, once about 13 or so years ago, a door to door sales person came selling magazines. I wanted to buy People magazine and I had my check book out but, needed a pen so, I left the room to get a pen, and stupidly left my checkbook out in the open. While I was away from her, she stole a check from the back of my checkbook and changed my order to include 3 other magazines which would booster her commission. My rent check bounced and I was ablt to trace the fraud back to her. It all got straightened out and was a lesson learned.
