Do you know your Shakespeare? |
|
Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest poet writing in English but have you read any of his plays? I have because they made us read Romeo&Juliet in high school and then I got curious and explored on my own. Which play/poem did you like?

1. hallmarkjl (231) | 2 months ago | I believe I have read a few different items by Shakespeare, but my favorite would have to be Romeo and Juliet. I find it to be a wonderful love story of two people who want to be together, but everyone else is against it. Then one finds the other and believes they are dead and kills themself and vice versa. I wonderful play, if I may say so myself.

AnakSuNamun (300) | 2 months ago | Yeah,it's classic and very tragic. I like Otello, jealousy and violence related to it are relevant at all times, same as love. Have you watched the movie She's the man? It was based on 12th night by Shakespeare.

2. asereht1970 (245) | 2 months ago | Because of my love for reading, i have read Shakespeare's works even before he was introduced to us in school. I've read Macbeth, Hamlet, and of course, my favorite Romeo and Juliet. I like the story because i always love stories with You and Me Against the World scenario. LOL

4. overhere (248) | 2 months ago | Shakespeare is something that is great to read and even better to see performed be it by amateurs or professionals, and it doesn't even matter whether it is set in the time or a modern adaptation. My all time favourite is Hamlet without a doubt and I have read and seen it several times. Twelth Night would probably be a close second in the fabourites stakes.

5. jer31558 (2096) | 2 months ago | Though I am not a Shakespeare fan by no means, I have read some of his plays and watched some of them which were made into movies...like you, it was back in my high school days though. As to a favorite one, I can't really say that I have one.

6. Farside604 (408) | 2 months ago | My favorite Shakespearean play is Hamlet. It is chalked full of themes that he pioneered and no one came close to professing them as much as he did. My second favorite it King Lear which is often overlooked. Again another tradgy but the play was fantastic. Rounding out my list there is a tie between Othello and Macbeth. For two very different reasons these plays were amazing in their own right. I dont mean to offend anyone who likes Romeo and Juliet because it is a good play, but i feel it over popularized.

7. Angelwriter (970) | 2 months ago | I was an English major in college, so I read my share of Shakespeare. Macbeth, Othello, King Lear, The Tempest, and a few others. Strangely enough, never Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet, although I tried reading the last one on my own, but never got through it. I'm not a big Shakespeare fan, but out of his plays I liked King Lear the best. I also like the poem that starts: "When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes"
