Rollercoasters! Your kid says yes you say insided, "OMG NO" |
|
Ok it's that time of year and our Theme Park is open. We usually get passes for the year but now that our little ones are getting older they want to ride some very big rides. When I was younger I rode some rides and OMG they were so scary to me. Just to see my child standing in line freaks me out on smaller very spinny rides. There have been some dangerous outcomes and deaths on some but few, just the thought of any of that happening to any of my kids freaks me out inside and my stomach feels the ups and downs of the rides and how scary they are. Do you encourage your kids to just get on any ride, do you have fears of them being on them, or do you feel it's safer to ride the nondangerous ones and that's it until they are 18 years old and you cannot really stop them then?

1. stephcjh (11158) | 3 months ago | I used to ride all kinds of rides when I was younger. I tried to ride some a few years ago that go fast and spin and it takes my stomacj and my breath and makes me sick now that I am older. My daughter is 16 now and she loves to ride the fast rides and the ones that spin. I am scared for her because the rides are not as safe as they were back then. They do not take the time to make sure the rides are working properly these days. She wants to ride them, so I let her but first we sit and watch to see if we see any flaws with it.

2. phillygirl606 (801) | 3 months ago | Well I'm 26 and still love riding them crazy rides. Last year I tried to get my son to go on the wild mouse roller coaster with me, he'll be 7 years old next month and he said "mom are you crazy no way am I going on that" So I did not push the subject any longer. I'm figuring that by the time he wants to start going on them crazy coasters and such I will not want to go on them anymore, lol. I have never really put any thought into the dangers of it though. No one likes to think about that, although you do raise a good point, there should be at least some worry. We see it on the news at least once a summer, one of those crazy rides malfunctioning.

3. magrylouyu (695) | 3 months ago | I used to love and still do love riding rollercoasters and all those "scary" rides. My children are still quite young for those big rides yet but I know it will make me nervous at first but I'll get over it. I dont think making them wait until they are 18 will make a difference! They will still have that danger lingering over their heads. I still have that danger and i'm 22. Even the 5 year olds have a danger of riding the "baby" rides. SO, to me it doesnt matter. I will just be nervous the first few times.

4. lilybug (6951) | 3 months ago | My son is 8 years old and he rode his first big carnival rides the other day. Not quite the theme park roller coaster, but they move pretty fast. He really wanted to do it, but I was afraid that he would be scared, but I was not afraid for his safety. He had a blast and now he can't wait to go to Six Flags and ride the bigger rides.

5. MooPile (1334) | 3 months ago | I let my son ride the ones that he can ride. He's pretty tall for his age and is built like his dad, so he looks older than 9. I am usually in the seat next to him, screaming my head off in joy as the coaster goes round and round or up and down. I love coasters. My two girls hate them though. They prefer the ferris wheels and the carousels.

6. perrytx (1920) | 3 months ago | At our local theme park we've had a very small number of accidents so I feel pretty safe to let my kids go on them. Now, as for me, I used to like all the rides when I was a teenager, but not anymore. The roller coaster makes me shake all over and some of the slowest rides make me queasey! Guess I'm getting old!

7. angelwhispers30 (1444) | 3 months ago | I'm 29 and I love all rollercoasters, including ones that go upside down and and all. I'll try anything once. All those that spin and go fast? Yes, those too. My daughter hates anything like that though. We once took the kids to a theme park and she hated the merry go rounds designed for small kids, and she screamed her head off the entire way through. Maybe she'll lose that fear as she gets older, I don't know. If she wants to try something I'd encourage her to try it. She might just find something that she likes.

8. Razzles (273) | 3 months ago | I used to love the rollercoasters when my kids were younger. I would be the one to go on the rollercoasters with my kids as my husband couldn't take those type of rides. The only rides he liked was the merry go round or bumper cars. I had a scary experience though when I was at Six Flags Over Georgia and I haven't been on a rollercoaster since. My kids and I were on the Scream Machine. We were at the very top and as the rollercoaster started to go, my seatbelt came undone. I tried to get the attendents attention and he thought I was waving at him and waved back. I saw my whole life flash in front of me. I guess the attendent could see the fear in my eyes and he stopped the ride. What an experience!
