School Uniform Prices! Do You Think They Are Over Priced Too?

It used to drive us round the bend too. There had to be a logo on everything, funny thing was though, that girls that didn't have the logo on never got penalised and the school would always make sure that they had a school sweatshirt or whatever if they represented the school at anything. Almost as if they didn't really expect the girl to have the right kit. Ours always did though and it cost a fortune too. When Clare left school they changed the patterns of most logo items so we couldn't even give it, or sell it. When she went to her sixth form they didn't have to wear uniform. Instead, she wanted to buy the hoodies that every senior school activity seemed to attract, including a leavers one! We now have what seems like dozens of the things all emblazoned with the school name and crest. She even bought a pair of school boxer shorts to wear in bed. We might as well have bought her a new uniform. Probably cost about the same. I'm off to my Blog now, I need to rant. LOL.

Yes I totally agree with you they are way over priced, it is disgusting especially considering how fast they grow and how easily they put holes in things. The school that my children are at have a logo on, but they do not have to have it they can have plain uniform as long as the colours are right.

But recently a shop in our town has started to stock the school uniform at nearly less than half price of the school, so for instance their polo shirts are only £5.99 which is a lot better that what the school charge!!

When my son was at school we had to provide all his school uniform and the cost was prohibitive. However, we were able to compromise with a lot of it, underwear, socks and shirts mainly. The prices are far too high these days, but one of the ideas the school came up with was to run a second-hand uniform shop where parents could take in the uniform their kids had outgrown and we managed to pick up bargains that way.

I think that is huge price because In India it won't be that much of money for school dress so pounds so cost than United state dolor so in India around 800 Indian rupees means around 20$ so than it is cheap here.

My two kids that are of school age go to private school and have to wear uniforms.

Instead of buying them new, the parents of older childen sell them to the parents of younget children at a fraction of the cost of new uniforms. My son wears black or blue Docker type pants, a white button down shirt, black, blue or white socks and black or brown loafers. My oldest daughter wears a plaid jumper, white shirt, black, white or blue knee socks/tights and black or brown patent leather shoes. I can get my son's stuff at Wal-Mart, but my I have to buy my daughter's clothing from either the school store or from other parents.

You might try seeing if someone around your community has uniforms that they could sell since their kids outgrew them. It's saved us a LOT of money.

When my kids were in

St Mary's they wore

uniforms which were expensive

but you only had to have a couple

and not a bunch of outfits so

I thought it was actuaally cheaper.

that is awful news about your-all's school uniforms like that. our school system here in Tennessee, they have to wear uniforms, but i do not know if the school actually sold any of them or not, our school uniforms here do not have the logo of the school on them. so therefore, the boys can wear just plain polo style t-shirt to school in. and their pants and short's that they wear to school has to be knee length. and also no cargo pants with all of the pockets in them are not allowed. so the pants that they wear to school just has to be plain pants without any pockets all over the legs of them. also, the boys are not allowed to wear sandles of any kind any longer to school. the shoes must be enclosed shoes. when Wal-Mart has their uniforms stocked up, that is usually wear that i purchase the boy's when i can find their size there as well. i had to go to Target last year as well as Wal-Mart and also to the uniform store here in town. wear me out just over purchasing the correct school attire.

I dont understand why they need a logo on everything. Sweatshirt, PE bag and book bag I can understand but this should be down to the parents if they want to purchase these items. PE shirts, shorts and coat there is no need.

I think schools do this to help prevent bullying but then if you cant afford these items then your child is going to stand out and get bullied!! I think the prices are ridiculous, you would have thought that if you bulk buy from the school you could get abit of discount or something!! If I was you I would talk to other parents and see what they dress their children in, and if they use plain clothes then I would do the same!!

I dont have any children but remember my time from school, the amount of sweatshirts and bags that got left on the playground/field and didnt have names in so make sure you name your child's clothing escpecially at the price you have to pay for them!!

I do not agree with school uniform. Does it stand for the honour of the school?Or does it stand for the discipline of the school or anything else? As for me,there is no need to ask every student to wear uniform except on some special occasions.In addition, school ask too much money for the uniform. I approse school to lower the price, if possibel, hope the government could help to solve this problem.

The price is terrible, do you know any one who can embroider the logoo for you, it would be a lot cheaper.The trouble is they grow so fast or lose or rip their clothes, The little Darlings? Just start saving lol as when I hade to buy Blazers for my sons to go to upper school they where £44 quid each, that was over 6yrs ago.Im sure they will be gone up to £100 by the time your sweet one gets to twelve!!!!
