oil goes to 128 and King Saud . . . |

tells Bush that there is no reason for him or OPEC to raise production. basically he is telling the west and China theres no reason for him to lower prices. Wow, and to think of all the help we give them. people are really struggling to survive with five dollar a gallon oil.

2. Adelida2233 (857) | 5 months ago | I really can't believe he went and asked them to lower the oil price "to help American consumers". Why would they do that? Americans are clearly having to pay the higher prices to continue to work and eat as it is. Why should they lower the price to be nice? I don't recall us stopping bombing any country we have been at war because the city had been destroyed. We did it to show that we are a superior power. We have been at war with Saudi Arabia in my lifetime, so it's still rather fresh in most peoples mind what we did. I can see why they won't lower their prices, for years America has been the largest consumer of everything, from gas to cigarettes to water. If there is a way to make a profit by charging the most profitable nation(people-wise, not government-wise obviously), I think they have every right to do so. I am American, and have to pay the gas prices too, so it's hurting me financially as well, but we should have seen this coming and have been saving for it. Countries in Europe have had gas at the price we have it at now for years. Yes, they complained, but they also found other options, bikes, scooters, etc. I think America has forgotten how to walk, ride a bike, etc. Or maybe we just dug ourselves in a whole by not having cheap transportation options.

tigertang (1485) | 5 months ago | I think the issue here is that this is an open market and the demand for oil has gone through the roof thanks to growing demand for energy from a billion plus people in China and another billion plus in India. Seriously, I've actually seen reports stating that the Gulf Arabs may not actually have the ability to open the taps to lower the price of oil, even if they wanted to. As things stand, China and India plan to reach the living standards that Americans currently enjoy and between them they have a population that is only 10 times what the American population is. So, you can imagine the type of demand they're going to have on the oil market and the Saudi's would be utterly stupid if they tried to tell these guys willing to pay cash - "Sorry, the oil is America's"

3. oneandonemakesix (24158) | 5 months ago | the way we can really beat these people is so simple that we need to get the American OIl companies on board and get them to sell their oil to America for less than it is over seas, that forces the oil prices down and in the end its a win win situation because we would help the economy we weould be forcing the oil that is going to world market to compete. I think at a time like this Americans should start by taking care of their own, and not thinking of all teh greed that they can get because we are paying 128.00 a barral of oil. Mooch

4. markss1975 (106) | 4 months ago | Now for the really crazy part of this story. The Saudies have "found" a way to produce more oil, and have started doing it. They have also come out asking for a meeting between all of the major oil producers, and suppliers to discuss how much of an impact speculation has had on the price of oil. The Saudies believe that oil should be trading in the $60 - $80 range, and will do what it takes to get it back to this level. Now the question I have is why wouldn't they say this during, or even while Bush was leaving to make it look like they cared what he had to say to them. But, they wait till after he leaves to shock the market, and all of wall street with this news (and it did do that). I guess that shows how good of friends the Saudies are, and how much they like their good friend GWB
