Here's a house cleaning tip to make your kitchen floor dry sooner after mopping.

I usually use homemade cleaning cloths to clean my kitchen and bathroom floors. These work just as well as the branded disinfectant cost, but are way cheaper and last longer. They are simply kitchen roll, with the inner tube taken out, squashed so they fit in a tub, then pour over disinfectant. Leave them for a day for the liquid to soak in, then use them on the floor. It dries quickly because there isn't much liquid used initially.

I also use pretty much the same solution for all my cleaning. 1/3 Stardrops to 1/3 white vinegar to 1/3 water. This works for the kitchen, bathroom, mirrors, windows, or anywhere you would use a conventional Flash-type cleaner.

Thanks for the tip. Springtime in eastern Canada means a lot of rainy days, and three kids mean a lot of dirty floors. I hate having to wait until they go to bed to wash the floor, but with the humidity they take forever to dry. I'm going to try this tomorrow.

My tip - though I have to admit that I saw it on TV and it isn't my own is about cleaning crayon off the walls. Malt the wax with your hairdryer and it wipes right off.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. It sounds great. Here's a tip I picked up on my favorite site: Use coca cola to clean a burned pan. Pour coke in the pan over medium heat for five minutes. The burned spot will wipe right out.

I find that if you use really hot water the floors dry more quickly as well. I don't usually use water at all because my floors are wood, but I find that works great on the bathroom linoleum. I will have to try the alcohol trick though!

That's a really good suggestion. I would add that if you have a standing fan you could use that too...but more people probably have alcohol than a standing fan.

That is genius, beautyqueen. Did you figure that out yourself? I don't have a problem with it because I have porcelain tile in my kitchen, but before having that installed I had disgusting linoleum and it would have been great to know then.

Hi friend thank you so much for the timely tip, here it is rainy season, it is raining cats and dogs since last four days. Medicine grade alcohol is Ethyal alcohol too costly . My wife keeps the ceiling fan running and puts two table fans at the corners to dry the flour. Cheers friend.

I just try it with a towel. I don't really mop it with too wet a mop, just one damp enough to actually clean the floor, so it doesn't really take long to dry, but if I need to be in the room straight away then I just use a towel. Nothing fancy.
