A public school wants to go to wearing uniforms like a private school.. |
|
My son school is deciding to do this.. I don't agree with it... I believe that if you are a public school then you should wear suitable clothes.. If they want to do this, then they should change their name to a private school.. I am very uncomfortable with this decision... As a parent, I feel strongly against this. A public should stay public and a private should stay private... If a public school is deciding to do this, then maybe they need to consider being a private school. My sister was telling me that, they may be doing this because they want to reduce the bullying in schools... But the way that I feel is, even if you wear private school uniforms, then you can still get teased... I believe that this school is just trying to make a point out of themselves...

1. ayumitakashi (2173) | 5 months ago | I've always gone to public schools and they have always said that we should wears uniforms. It's not only about the bullying but also about the stealing because whenever a kid wears something really nice some other kid might want it and end up stealing it. It kind of sucked to wear uniforms but I got used to it. The high school I went to also required uniforms but I didn't have much problems because I bought some snazzy suits so that I could wear them and like hot and sexy. LOL. But yeah I didn't agree with it either but there was not other choice.

cream97 (4496) | 5 months ago | Yes sure... You turned a situation into a good one.. I am just wondering, since they want the students to wear these uniforms, then whom is paying for this??
| |
|
|
ayumitakashi (2173) | 5 months ago | For the clothes? Well my parents of course. But our uniform was really simple. Just a white shirt and black, or navy pants. If a student went to my high school without a uniform then they would have to get a sticker that says they don't have a uniform and they would have to wear the sticker all day. Oh and you couldn't wear sneakers. The shoes had to be black. So I wore black Timbs when I went there. By the way what kind of uniform are they going to put for your son?
| |
|
|
cream97 (4496) | 5 months ago | They were saying that a navy blue shirt with khaki pants, or white pants... Something in this category...
| |
|
|
ayumitakashi (2173) | 5 months ago | Well that's not bad. To tell you the truth my mother didn't spend too much on me. I would go to school with the same shirt everyday but I would make sure to wash it and not get it dirty. I only had like two pairs of black pants and by the time I was graduating already I only had one pair. I didn't want to bother my mom with more money for clothes so I just went like that. I hope that you can figure this out.

2. LoudnProud (4470) | 5 months ago | Where i stay all schools public & private have a uniform. i think its a good idea because it tells whos a school pupil & whos not,if a child with a school uniform on is roaming around say a shopping centre without an adult, there is a chance he is playing traunt. Also there is great pressure on parents to buy designer clothing for children, with a uniform they are all wearing the same, but with normal clothing, there is a chance of bullying all because a child has say £10 shoes compared to those that walk around with £100 ones. When my son was at secondary school,i was so glad for uniform rules, there was no way i could afford to buy all that expensive gear.

cream97 (4496) | 5 months ago | Yes, but the reason is still absurd.. There are just too many clothes that will be sitting out... This school is just trying to be like the schools up state... If they are going to do this, then they need to make ALL SCHOOLS PRIVATE!

LoudnProud (4470) | 5 months ago | What exactly is this uniform? I have replied to this going on public uniform here, but now i am thinking it could be different or more where you are.
| |
|
|
cream97 (4496) | 5 months ago | Their uniform is meant to be a shirt and pants. That is what they are calling it..
| |
|
|
LoudnProud (4470) | 5 months ago | Ok well here uniform is pants & sweater with school logo on it,say all black. I noticed you asked who is going to pay for it. Well the same could be said about normal clothing, who is going to pay for that,if your child comes home crying or upset because he she is not wearing designer clothing & is now being bullied because of it. Where as if all kids are wearing the same it less likely to happen. I do understand where your coming from with the difference in private & public. There are both good & bad sides to it.

3. lilwonders123 (1252) | 5 months ago | The public schools here wear uniforms too. A lot of public schools are starting to do it. I do not know why.

lilwonders123 (1252) | 5 months ago | The public schools here have also started going year round. They get two weeks off every nine weeks, longer at christmas and only a few weeks in the summer. I hate it.

irisheyes (2238) | 5 months ago | Kids are often picked on and made fun of because their parents can't afford to buy them expensive clothing or won't allow them to wear suggestive clothing. When there is a uniform dress code, all the children wear the same think and it eliminates one avenue of bullying. It's been found where it has been tried, to work quite well.

5. dragon54u (3542) | 5 months ago | Think about the money that you as a parent could save! I've always been in favor of school uniforms because then everyone is on a level ground, no matter their economic status. I remember being teased, and my kids being teased, because our clothing was inexpensive and not following trends. It would reduce theft, too. Kids get their clothing stolen because of the brands. Kids are robbed for their shoes if it's an "upscale" and popular brand. And then there's the dress code. I remember my boy said he couldn't concentrate because a number of girls were wearing very revealing clothing. When a teacher tried to enforce the dress code, the parents sued! The teacher quit in disgust. These girls were wearing jeans that were so low cut they left nothing to the imagination and see-through low cut tops that showed everything but the nipples! Uniforms would save parents money, level the playing field and reduce distractions, fights and theft. I understand your point but I think the good would outweigh the bad.

ayumitakashi (2173) | 5 months ago | Yeah that's what I am saying this it would reduce theft. And to tell you the truth I went to a high school with uniform and there would still be girls that would wear really short white shirst that would show of their bellies. What you should just described is just nasty. But I do agree with you. My uniform consisted of a white shirt and black or navy pants. The girls could wear skirts but they would have to be longer than the lenght of you arm against your legs.

6. sturner03 (303) | 5 months ago | I think they need to draw a line and inforce it with whats appropriate to wear to a public school. I don't think they should have to wear a uniform, because yes that would be a private school. But it is getting out of control how teenagers are dressing these days, not so much the boys as the girls.

7. kwenge (1241) | 5 months ago | I used to school in public school and I used to wear uniform. I dont see a big deal in kids wearing uniforms. Infact it saves the cost of buying some fancy and expensive clads for the students. It reduces competition for fashion among the students. Ok, I dint like the idea of wearing uniforms but I had no option.

8. vicneedscoffee (875) | 5 months ago | I think there are a few reasons for schools to do this. First, it would keep kids from picking on kids from lower economic groups for not having what they have. Secondly, it would help in areas where gangs like to show their colors. Thirdly, it would cut down on theft. I know our schools have a dress code the kids have to follow, but I would not call it too strict. The kids can not wear anythings with adult logos (alcohol, cigarettes,) shirts that show midriff, skirts and shorts that are too short. I live in the country though, so we don't have issues with gangs so there is no worry about gang colors.

9. lilybug (8910) | 5 months ago | The school that my son attended when we lived in the city was a public school, but they were required to wear a uniform. Their uniform police was a little more relaxed than most. They could wear either black, navy blue, or tan pants, but the shirt had to be white. It could be a polo shirt or a t-shirt, but it had to be white.

10. nilzerous1 (1423) | 5 months ago | In my country both Public and Private schools have framed their own uniform code, and follow a strict compliance of the same. Students without proper uniform are never allowed to attend classes. Now there is a word floating in the air that Public Schools may consider withdrawing dress codes. It has already been started experimentally in different parts of my country. As such I find no harm if someone wants to use uniform, be it public or private school. Rather, use of uniform develops a sense of discipline in the mind of the students. When I was a student, I took much pride in wearing my uniforms. Besides wearing a uniform helps developing self-esteem in the mind of student.
