Okay girls and guys, I need some encouragement here email this discussion to a friend?

For years I have struggled with my weight. I had gastric stapling done 28 years ago which failed and I also had my jaw wired shut about 23 years ago but fell pregnant with my third baby so had to take the wiring out.

I've tried diet after diet after diet without success and hit an all time high of 170kg. I have stopped doing all but necessary walking and home duties, but my dear hubby has taken over that role because my weight is hindering my mobility.

I started to go to the pool once a week where I do some exercises in the water but at $4 per go plus a cab fare home afterwards it is becoming a financial drain on us as we are both on benefits for health reasons. Hubby is epileptic and I have weight and mobility related issues so our income is very limited.

On Monday I saw a program about Oprah and she bought in guests who had lost amazing amount of weight without surgery. I decided that I need to get my weight under control now as it is really affecting my health so I rung up Mr Rental to check out hiring an exercise bike. $10 per week was the best offer that they could give me so yesterday I had a bike delivered to my home.

The bike arrived and hubby and my daughter aged 19 both checked it out. Then it was my turn. Like I explained my mobility is bug*ered and I couldn't even get on the darn thing. What to do......

We finally came up with a solution. Either hubby or my daughter would cycle and I will walk quickly on the spot at the same. Yesterday we did about 6 to 8km in fits and starts, one Km at a time. It was hard going at first but by the end of the evening I was able to do the kilometer without too much of a struggle.

This morning I decided to go for 2km and have done that twice so far. Now I just need to keep going with this and gradually increase the distance. Then in time I will be able to use the bike in the normal way and aim for 10km a day.

I have a goal in mind, my 2nd grandbaby is due in November and I want to have the energy to be a real grandma instead of one who sits in a chair all the time. It will not be easy and I will want to quit but I have to do this if I want to be around when this little one is growing up.

So my dear friends, I really need your help here. I have a long journey ahead of me and I know I will get discouraged but I believe with the support of my family and all mylot friends I will be able to go the distance.

So please keep me in your thoughts and I will keep you updated on my progress. My aim is to write a quick note to mylot friends each day to let you know how far I have walked, if I know that I have to "report" back to you guys and girls it will keep me going. (after all I can't exactly ask for your support and then let us all down can I)

If anyone wants to join me then jump on board and we can monitor each others progress and be a support person for when the times get tough.

Just a quick note once a day to say how far you have traveled or how much time you have spent working out will be great. Imagine we are participating in a virtual get fit program with all our friends.

I am going to do this because I have to my friends and I hope that some of you will join me. In numbers there is strength and it will be easier to keep going if we know there are others who are joining in with the fun.

Good on you Kitten.
You are now on the road to success.
I have a treadmill, it is set up but I am unable to use it yet,
As we have been tiling the room it is in.
Once I am able to use it I will join you, that way it gives us incentive to keep going at it.
My weight is medication related, but I know I can lose some of it.
I was walking of a morning with a neighbour.
But her idea of a walk was to stop and chat to everyone, hence the treadmill.

Gee Kitten, I really do not know how one goes about starting an online group.
Apart from doing a post each week, saying what you done, and we tell you what we have done.

ok i have an idea we could make a group on Google and we could name it "mylot fans" and every one of us include the url of his discussions daily in this group and we make sure to visit at lest 3 or 4 topics for every one on this group members u could imagine how much many comments we could have it every day and i think this very legal and provide our work here and provide our ranks tell me if u like it and lets go to start it

Good for you hon! Every little bit helps. I have a suggestion for the bike though. Call the rental place back and see if they have a recumbent bike instead of the one you're renting now. It's one of those that's lower, and you're pedalling with your feet out in front of you. It's so much easier to use. I had to get one because of my back. Even though I've had the gastric bypass, and I've been steadily losing weight, the pain hasn't gone away. So my recumbent bike has been a big help. And make sure you don't push yourself too hard, whatever the exercise method is that you're using. Otherwise your muscles will protest quite loudly. I will gladly join you in the virtual fit program. Maybe it will get me more motivated too. Hugs to you hon.

Good for you for all your efforts! The one thing I notice is you leave out food changes, drink water, and watch your calories, and find small rewards when you do well that don't include food, like a nice manicure....

i want to first congratulate you on putting it out here for us to see in public, i am going to give you some encouragement here, go to my post about earning money fast and copy and paste the likn that i have left there. oh heck ill just type it again here for the rest of you too. this site once you get it figured out will help nyou along with suggestions on your dietary needs and fitness. i have been a member for 10 days and really love the site.

ok this is going to be a short one, after you sign up make sure you fill out your health profile, it will be right under your name over to the right side of your screen, then search around and read the news, issues and watch exercise videos and so forth. add food to your daily journal. i do all mine when i get up in the morning. i was first having problems locating food so i started adding food manually. here is a good site to go to to get calories and nutritional values for what you add, you dont have to register or sign up for this site because if you do then they charge you. i just search from the main page and it works so good that i have saved lots of time entering the food values.

The trouble with us saying we try is that we are not consistent. I weighed more than you... I weighed in at 400 pounds.. a good what? 25 pounds more than you? I had gastric bypass, and lost 140 pounds.. and slowly I have gained back 70 pounds. I still can't eat much, due to the surgery, but being immobile and eating much of anything turns to fat. You have to burn muscle in order to lose. When I lost the 140 I was walking... now I am so busy working online to make a living that I don't get out much at all..so what I do eat goes to fat... so I am thinking even you if you aren't moving will gain weight.

I am contemplating having a second surgery done to make my stomach smaller again. But still I will have to get out and move in order to lose any weight. I lost 15 since moving here but that fluctuates back and forth.

I wish you luck... and hope you can find a way to make it work for you.

Good on you, lady! I had a girlfriend who's been trying to get her weight down, but she's failed every time. Recently, she's gotten to the point where her weight is causing her issues with doing her job, and her doctor told her that she was never going to be able to have children safely (she's diabetic) if she wasn't able to drop 50lbs.

So, she's now motivated and is doing everything she can to get it off...and I think she will this time. You sound like you have a lot of motivation, so I have faith that you will be able to be successful. My friend, here, has gotten involved with a free program at her local hospital that offers support and gives you a structure. I don't remember what it's called, but it's supposed to be the best program out there for people who not only feed themselves but have to cook and feed family members, too.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and keep walking!:)

I tried the hospital programs too but because I had so many options I never kept going. I start out with the best intentions then when nothing seems to be happening I bum out.

I tried OA (Overeaters Anonymous) a few years back but as soon as I was offered to hand the control over to a sponsor I bummed out.

But I believe with support from my family and my online group members in mylot I will be able to keep going.

I, too, have struggled with my fat all my life. Yes, it's FAT, not weight!! That's one thing that's in our way,all our lives people have said oh, she's such a big girl! We weren't big, we were fat. And they offered nothing, just a euphemism with criticism.

Well, I lost a lot of weight with Weight Watchers back in the 70's and kept it off till I had kids in the late 80's but then it was a free for all! I had no control and no consciousness of what I was eating, I was just trying to deal with 2 boys 364 days apart and a husband that was never home and when he was, he was on the couch watching tv or working in his home office. I was a mess.

Then he encouraged me to enroll in a program of weight loss that concentrated on portion control. (He didn't mean to do me well, he just wanted to prepare me for when he'd divorce me for his high school girlfriend, but it worked for me and it still is.)

The doctor I went to told me to make a food journal and recommended Fit Day dot Com. That site is worth its weight in gold!! I thought I ate like a bird but when I wrote down everything I picked at, picked up and picked over, I was consuming about 5,000 calories a day!! This site shows you how many calories you're consuming at rest for your height and weight and how many you can eat and still lose weight. It shows you how many vitamins you're getting, where you're lacking, and has a place to enter how much you've walked, how much housework you've done or stairs you've climbed and applies it to your daily profile. Fit Day dot com is free!! It let me ditch the doctor and the diet pills and lost that fat.

I have 40 pounds to go. I took a year off because I got my divorce finalized, moved, had a death in the family, etc. and didn't think I needed the stress of improving my body. I started again a couple of weeks ago and I've lost 1.5 pounds. That's pretty good for someone who has arthritis and scoliosis and can't exercise a lot without pain, eh?

Please go to that site, register and start using it honestly. You'll be surprised at how many calories you use in everyday activities! You'll probably also be surprised at how much you really consume because you're eating some things that might be really high calorie. Half a hotdog is more calories than two salads or a small bowl of nuts!

I also found that my ex-husband changed my eating habit. I was wolfing my food like he did--he INHALED!--and getting no satisfaction. I had to slow down and chew every bite at least ten times. And I recently found that if I take small enough bites that my cheek doesn't bulge, I enjoy my meal a lot more! Every notice that most people don't have bulging cheeks as they eat? That's cos they take small bites and enjoy them. Take the time to enjoy food, it's one of the blessings of life!

Well, that's my rant. You and I can lose weight together, ok? I'm saddled with a crooked back and arthritis which limits my exercise and you're stuck with to much weight so that makes us about even.

I got a pedometer yesterday and am surprised that it's 9:58 here (10pm after I finish the stupid tags) and I've walked 5,057 steps not even trying this day!!! happy

Get one, it's a great motivator!

I know I am going to get flak, but I feel and look so much better and have more energy when I cut out the white stuff. See the picture, that is the real me, I just had that pic taken for business cards, I am going to be 60 in a few months.

Increase the amount of protein, we need more than you think. on WW or any other diet you lose weight fast but lose muscles, which we need to burn fats. That is why men lose fast beause if their muscles! Besides things like nuts are protein based and fill you up. When I am bad and revert back to sugar crap I ger out of control, it is a real addiction.

Also eat MORE frequently and chew thoroughly, when you are starved you tend to eat more. I keep nuts or protien bats or mini cheeses around to nibble on.

Also stay away from things with high fructose corn syrup, if you must eat bread and pasta use only WHOLE grains.
