Mr Jekyll and Mr Hyde |
Last night I had a most peculiar dream about a couple of my myLot friends. In my dream one of my friends, a gentle and compassionate soul, morphed into another friend who is equally kind, but more impassioned about things. However, in my dream this person became demanding, confrontational and downright nasty - no I won't say who they are. If you had an alter ego, what would they be like, and what adventures would you have?

1. foxyfire33 (5748) | 8 months ago | My alter ego is definitely quirky and bold. She would not fit any of the social norms I stay so firmly within. She would have one of those names like Rainbow or Meadow or Starshine or any of the others that make people think they must have misunderstood. She would be artsy and eccentric, creative and wise. My alter ego would be out there changing the world and blazing new trails. Could you go take a nap now? It'd be nice to have my alter ego in someone else's head besides my own even if just for a little while.

2. sparkofinsanity (1971) | 8 months ago | Sparks is my alter ego - and sorry about the dream thing, I was having a bad night! ROFL In real life I am still occasionaly funny, but I am more civic minded and active. I plan, I execute, I keep very good records and every day I wonder my supposed retirement is busier than my 'working' years! LOL Bizarre things happen to me everday in small ways and that's what sparks my insanity here. So enjoy my on site alter ego, because in real life I'm really quite ordinary! LOL

3. pumpkinjam (2640) | 8 months ago | It wasn't me was it? That is how I would imagine my alter ego to be. I do "explode" sometime. Probably my own fault in a way because I take everything in and let it out all at once. That is why I sometimes appear to be picking on my other half when he has done nothing wrong because my angry tank gets full and it comes right out. Isn't that kind of how some personality disorders work? The person is not being two people but merely two extremes separately.
| |
| |
p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | Not you Pumpkin. I think that you are describing schizophrenia. I don't think that you are that either. Very patient perhaps. Too patient at times maybe. I'm a bottler up too. I know what it's like to explode.
| |
pumpkinjam (2640) | 8 months ago | Excuse me for correcting you, sir, but I feel I must. Two separate extremes of personality, being apparent independently of one another, is not schizophrenia. It is more likely to be a multiple personality disorder. Schizophrenics may appear to talk to themselves and hear voices but they are talking to someone they believe is a different person. They are not the other person. Someone with MPD will not talk to themselves because they are separate people at a separate time. One personality may or may not know of the others existence. Also, schizophrenics do show extreme behaviours but not usually to such an extent that they appear to become a new and separate person as does someone with multiple personality disorder. If you are wondering how I know this, I think I may have mentioned it in other discussions. My best friend is not schizophrenic but has dual personality disorder. He is a wonderful, bubbly, funny but shy person but his "Hyde" is cold and antisocial. His looks change too. Some deliberate such as hair colouring but his eyes naturally become dark and empty and his entire persona changes to one of a much straighter (I don't mean in the heterosexual sense, I mean the other thing that I mean. You know what I mean) and more aggressive man.

dorypanda (864) | 8 months ago | I've noticed he does that too, I think he's scary when he's not really him. The voices in my head mainly tell me to eat chocolate, so that's ok.:)

4. novataylor (1819) | 8 months ago | Nice, p1ke, I like this one! I think I'm pretty much my own alter ego, frankly. But I guess if I had to really consider what an alter ego would be for me, it would have to be someone who is not nice, is compassion-free, and deliberately hurtful. I can't imagine that person, truly, p1ke. In saying that I think I'm my own alter ego, I think I say that because I let myself be who I really am, I open myself up to new situations and people I'm whoever I feel like being at any given time. I don't limit myself or place restrictions on myself, I allow myself to feel what I'm feeling, to go with it, to explore those feelings, to act on those feelings. I'm wild when I feel wild, I'm a sexual animal when that's how I feel, and sometimes I'm even quiet and introspective, preferring my own company to anyone else's. And here on the Lot, I'm exactly who I am in real life - you can attest to that, I believe. We've spent so much time talking face to face, you know me quite well, I think, certainly better than anyone else here. So what do you think? Do you think I have an alter ego? One that's significantly different than I am ordinarily? I don't think I do. I really love this post. I hope you get some great responses. I would think you would. Love ya, baby. XXX

p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a late rally. Time will tell. I know that with you what you see is what you get. As for an alter ego - I can't see it too clearly, the nasty spiteful Nova. So we'd better stay with the one that we know and love. XX

5. Goodie123 (7433) | 8 months ago | If I had an Alter Ego, it would most likely be nasty. WHY, because by nature I am not a nasty person, So I think naturally any Alter Ego we have, Would be the opposite to how we really are.
| |
| |
p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | That maybe the case Goodie. But I can't imagine it. Except to throw tiles at people!
| |
Goodie123 (7433) | 8 months ago | Uuumm speaking of throwing tiles, my partner has gone off to garage sales. When he returns if he does not remove the unused tiles so I can start my big cleanup, Not only will tiles be flying, but I feel a few profanities might also start to fly.

p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | Sorry. I'm in the garden digging a fall out shelter. Didn't hear you. Thanks for the ear plugs though. I'm taking just a week's food. Will that be enough?

p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | I'm digging this hole so deep that I shall hit the water table soon. Then I'll have all the water that I shall need. That's made me think. Over here we say that we're digging our hole so dep that we'll hit Australia soon. Do you say the same thing in reverse? I'll get on with my digging whist you ponder that one.
| |
Goodie123 (7433) | 8 months ago | We normally say "We are digging the hole so deep we will end up in china". If I start digging now, maybe we can meet halfway. But mine is not going to be a fallout shelter. Mine may just be to hide some evidence, namely a hubby.

Transdisc (18618) | 8 months ago | Nasty? Like when you say that men don't listen to women, Goodie? Like when you suggest that when you talk to men, whatever you say goes in one ear and out the other? Is that what you mean by your alter ego?
| |
Goodie123 (7433) | 8 months ago | Only one man Trans, and when he gets home he is going to find me a changed person. He will not know what hit him. the first bang will be a tile hitting him, the second bang will be making sure the first tile did the job. LOL

p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | Mr Goodie can hide with me. But chuck a pack of beer down with him. We might as well enjoy our hole.
| |
Goodie123 (7433) | 8 months ago | Ah Mr goodie does not have beer in packs Pikey. He makes home brew, and if I were to lob that down your fallout shelter, it would explode. I would be killing 2 birds with one bottle.LOL

6. dorypanda (864) | 8 months ago | Hmmm, I think you've just described me actually. No, don't go getting all upset, I am usually a well adjusted (hahahaha) human fishy and am usually polite, friendly and generally easy-going and laid back. However, if anyone were to upset any member of my family, (or even certain friends on or offline for that matter) I tend to change into a bit of a monster, I kind of get all 'grrrr', my family and friends know that whenever they need someone to fight tooth and nail for them that they can rely on me. (when I'm awake that is).;) My life's been one long story, just the same as everyone elses really, we all live in a story, if you think about it, I bet you could write a book about your life, just like most people can, fair enough mine would be rather boring in most places but still, it's a story that can send people to sleep.:)
| |
| |
p1kef1sh (3903) | 8 months ago | Why would I get upset Dory? I know what you are like and have yet to see "Dangerous Dory" the fish that makes killer sharks quake. I think that it would make a much more interesting book if you wrote the story of my life. You don't know too much of course, and that would make it all the more interesting. I shall look forward to Chapter 1.
