Heavy or Light? |
|
Do you prefer heavy beer or light beer? Does it depend on the situation? I presonally like light beer, especially with crawfish, burgers or pizza.

1. kykidd (3122) | 8 months ago | I myself prefer Budweiser. It is not as heavy as some of the dark beers, but you get a lot more flavor than in the lite beers. It is probably just because that is what I am used to drinking. It seems like if I drink like beer, it goes down like water. So it is best that I stick with the heavier stuff, and a lot less expensive too. LOL

2. snowy22315 (5612) | 8 months ago | It depends on what I'm in the mood for. I generally drink light beer but if I'm in the mood for a real beer experience I will drink dark beer. i especially like Becks and Guiness. Many dark beers are good though.

| 3. Exertus (16) | 8 months ago | Hello Venticius! I find that my palate changes as the season changes. In the heat of summer, I prefer a lighter, dry hopped beer such as Foster's, Or Leinenkugels. In the autumn I start going darker. Perhaps a Boston Ale to match the color of the turning leaves, with a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. In the winter, I can Stay with the dark(ish) ales, but occasional wander into the Bocks and the Stouts (Sammy Smith's oatmeal stout is a dandy example)... It's even good with chocolate cake. In the spring, Busch and Corona cover me in the temperature swings. Of course, I'll hit the Busch all year long.

| sugar_licious (45) | 8 months ago | Exertus, what would you recommend for a float trip in June on the Snake River? Corona sounds great to me, but I was wondering what you might think. Or those Bud Chelada's I like sound good too for a hot summer day on the river. The Chelada is considered a red beer, right? I've tried other red beers and can't even drink an entire one without getting a really bad headache. The chelada doesn't seem to have that effect on me though. I've never tried Foster's, but I did win a case of it once in a dance contest, haha!

|
| Exertus (16) | 8 months ago | I'm certainly glad you asked, Sugarlicious. The Cheladas are good in small quantities, but you must consider that you will be on the river around 12 hours, and bottles are not typically permitted. My recommendation to you (from much experience), is a case of light beer, such as Miller Lite, or Bud Light. These beers tend to be crisp and refreshing on the river setting, while not loading up your palate with heavy flavors (such as a Chelada or Chill will do)... These heavy flavors will build up and make your mouth and throat feel "fouled" and may make you sick over an extended period of floating. You can do the light beer all day long. Or at least until you fall over.;)

| Exertus (16) | 8 months ago | I probably can't be trusted to catch anyone. I'll just try to flop my drunk self on the ground first to cushion the fall for you.

| 4. sugar_licious (45) | 8 months ago | I do like beer with crawfish, burgers and pizza. But, I still usually prefer something other than light beer if possible. I love beer, but I don't consume large quantities of it. Perhaps if I did I would go for the light beers more than I do. I especially like the Chelada Budweiser came out with. I hate the Miller Chelada, but I'm not a big fan of Miller beer of any kind. I also like Corona, Tequiza, and Heniken beers. I like the dark, heavier beers but the one's I've tried usually give me a headache. I think my friend Exertus (also answered this discussion) is teaching me a lot of what to look for in beers that are new and exotic to me and I'm anxious to try them. It is great to see someone else from my home state, who loves beer, crawfish, and the Tigers and is a supporter of John McCain! Geaux Tigers!

| Exertus (16) | 8 months ago | That is so Ironic. I answered your comment before I read your answer. My comment clashes with your answer! Sorry. But, my answer was specifically pointed to floating the river. I would never recommend a light, or canned beer in a relaxed, dry ground setting. I know that you like Heiney, so I recommend you try a Kolsch style beer this week. If you cannot find a Kolsch, take a 6 pack of Blue Moon wheat (available almost everywhere) and place it in the direct sunlight for about 5 days. The sunlight will break down some of the maltiness, and give it the familiar "Heineken musk"... It will just not be as dramatic. Kolsch style beer is very refreshing, as it is somewhere between a wheat ale (mouthfeel) and a Heiney (flavor). - Both of which are good summertime brews.

|
| sugar_licious (45) | 8 months ago | Notes taken! I will get the Kolch for this weekend and the Blue Moon for next weekend, since it has to sit in the sun for 5 days. This sure is fun!

5. gewcew23 (3487) | 7 months ago | I like neither, I like American Lager which are for the most part in between the two choices. I do like some Killian Irish Red, but I would not call it a heavy or a light. My reason for not liking either end of the spectrum is the taste. Light does not have enough, heavy to much. If I am having brats I like Mike's Hard Lemonaid. This might be because when I was a kid I always had lemonaid with my hotdogs. Kind of odd I know but I cannot eat brats without MHL. Red meat like steaks has to be a dark ale. Chicken has to be Budwieser.

6. aussieblonk (125) | 6 months ago | About 12yrs ago I decided beer was something that gave me less enjoyment than when I was a youngster partying all the time. Then I started drinking a beer called Light Ice, my passion for beer returned. Shorlty after I discovered Carlton Cold, a full strength beer, so now my beer of choice is Light Ice at home or for a sociable drink, when I drink out, then its a Carlton Cold or 4......VERDICT...Light!!
