| | 2.  timou87 (1528) | 3 years ago |  The UNITED NATIONS (not United States) should be reformed because the member nations have an unequal voice within the UN. THe US especially tends to abuse the United Nations system for its own agenda. It makes use of the Security Council to gain legitimacy for its warmongering and biased world policies, and then unilaterally ignores the Security Council and Genral Assembly when either opposes its actions. The Iraq War, support for Israel during the recent Isralei invasion of Lebanon, as well as blatant refusal of Venezuela into the Security Council are just 3 of the more recent examples of why the UN should be reformed.

| rosettaresearch (969) | 3 years ago | Umm, we can't get anything done about North Korea because Russia and China won't support sanctions. Nothing was done about Rwanda in 1994 because France wouldn't let the Security Council Act. As for Venezuela not getting a seat on the Security COuncil -- that was based on a vote in the General Assembly. They couldn't muster 2/3 of the countries to vote against the US candidate, which was winning most of the ballots but not the 2/3 necessary.
Not saying the system is perfect. But, it is NOT all the fault of the US. The US wants to get rid of the corruption, like the bribes Saddam Hussein paid to not have the sanctions enforced. The sanctions were put in place after Saddam invaded his neighbor, Kuwait, without provocation. | |
