What medicine do you use for coughing?Need help!

I think it is best you take your son to the doctor. Let her know that the medication that was given is not working. Sometimes the prescription is too weak. So the person need another one. Or if the doctor prescribe two doses you can add another. I have a sinus attack and thought household remedies would help. At this particular moment I am only hearing out one of my ears. I went to the doctor and receive some meds. So I would advice you to the doctor or go back to the pharmacist and explain it to her/him. All the best. Another thing, try and boil bush tea using sugar instead of always drinking too many milk.

Here are a few simple home remedies:
*Have honey in a hot drink before bed time.
*Dry cough can be cured by gradually swallowing a mixture of cumin seed powder mixed with ghee.
*Use a infusion of ginger thrice a day.
*Apples bring a great relief to a person with dry cough.
*The juice of an orange diluted in a cup of warm water,should be taken every two hours.
*Grapes help a great deal in treating cold in a few days. Consume 1 cup grape juice and also add 1-teaspoon honey to it.
*Gargling with warm spinach juice is very helpful in dealing with dry cough.
*Almonds are excellent for dry coughs. Soak about seven almonds in water and keep them overnight.Next morning peel off the brown skin.Now grind them to form a powder and take a tablespoon every morning...

Actually, coughing can be a GOOD thing. It cleans out the gunk you have inside and cleans you out.
For a 4 year old child, I suggest helping him make friends with a good herbal tea..just warm, not hot, with a little lemon and honey in it. Forget the doctor. They are TOO EXPENSIVE for a little cold! If you have ehinacea in your Wal-Mart or pharmacy, let the child take some of that. Avoid antibiotics..let his own body heal on it's own.
So many doctors give antibiotics, even for a virus when they know they do NOTHING for virusis. A cold is a VIRIS!Antibiotics cure bacterial infections and DO NOT cure colds. Do not let your child be given improper medicine, as this could harm his immunity system over time.
"Grandma's cure?" Chicken soups, jello, teas, etc..let your son's body flush out the cold when he urinates and his immunity system will grow stronger from that! When he wants to eat..it's ok. Just keep it fluidy and light a few days and the carrots and noodles in the chicken soup will be great for him. He won't starve! The body needs a break on occaision to heal. Dairy, though, will make the mucus thicker and he'll cough more. And that includes ICE CREAM!(Sherbert is OK.)
But for the cough...definitely, tea with a little honey to soothe his throat/with a little lemon (vitamin C)IF he wants some and lots of water! If he gets a fever, his body is burning off the cold, so do not give him anything for that. Let it burn it off naturally. But if he gets around 103 or so and needs ot sleep, then of course...a little regular Tylenol is OK to help him sleep at night. Rest is great! If he gets hot, water therapy like stting him in a tub of luke-warm water ..letting the water cool down with him in there until he shakes, which will break the fever, works! (He can play with toys in there while the water cools and the water will be calming to him!)
This is just what I did to help out my own kids! If he does not like pills, then at any local health food store, most carry liquid echinacea for kids with cherry flavor. IF he has an infection, that'll knock it ut of him by supporting his OWN immunity system to kick in and naturally kill that off, OK?
I have gone by my grandma's cures ALOT and it does work! If he ever gets an earache, a drop of onion juice mixed wiht a drop of olive oil and then plug the ear wth cotton worked for us every time!
