Driving With Grease Instead of Gas?  |

 I just heard about this one. It came from a very reliable source. Did you know that some cars will run off of old grease? Yes, the same oil that you fry chicken in will run the car and is being used instead of gas.

I, personally, don't fry much at all, and when I do, I use peanut oil, and very little of that.
Would there be "grease stations" popping up and replacing "gas stations"?
I'm honestly not trying to be funny here. If it's a good idea, I'm all for developing it! I simply can't see where it would be more economical.
Do you have more information about this? I'm sure there are more myLotters who would love to learn more.

Something is a little fishing on this one. How would a person get grease all the time? Would they start making pumps for this. I highly doubt that one. You say you have a source. Who is your source and where do I see it for my own two eyes. I'm sorry I just don't beleive this at all.

| 3. vicneedscoffee (883) | 4 months ago |  Yes, I actually watched a TV program about a guy who does the conversions on Discovery Channel I think. It costs between $3000-$5000 and he says a lot of folks have made contracts with restaurants to take their old grease. The restaurants like it because they usually have to pay some to remove it so it saves them money. If I had a decent vehicle I would seriously look into this. It is cleaner for the environment and a lot cheaper than gas since most people get the oil free.
The only problem I would foresee with this is it would be very hard to take a long distance drive. The other downside is the smell of fried foods. I could live with that to drive for free, though. I suppose storing it could be an issue as well. Would have to find a factory that would sell you some steel drums and they would probably smell too.
I think it's a great idea, though. I mean good for the environment and the wallet? You can't beat that. The only long term problem could be over-saturation of the market. Too many people start converting and the oil could become a commodity sold like gasoline, but I really don't foresee that happening.

We could all be driving around and the exhaust would smell of fried chicken or french fries instead of petrol fumes. I saw it on the discovery channel and they must save a ton on gas for it.

I wonder if those engines won't be too smelly and if that is really profitable, collecting grease from every house and restaurant. I saw something yesterday on tv about a device that makes fuel for cars using seaweed that they keep alive in some big tanks. It seems it works at least in a small scale.

I am not sure of the tax position of this???????????
I have seen a little workshop in ormskirk sign posted as oil development workshop (or something of that nature)
If lots of people started using it, then it would become a tax revenue earner the would become more expensive.
