Beavers, Beavers & More Beavers...

I'm alluding to barely disguised parodies of naughty bits being cleverly portrayed by TV advertising in prime viewing time, when kiddies are more than likely to be glued to the box.

The TV advertisers and broadcasters do this because there's nothing to stop them except a very occasional public backlash when they push things just a little too far... and then they just continue to erode the traditional bounds of decency after any backlash, when everything has quietened down again.

The relevant statutory government agencies in Australia have abrogated their responsibility to regulate media content by establishing a "set of guidelines" for "self regulation" - which I read as the farmer's just too damn lazy to guard the hen-house, so he just lets the foxes do it instead.

And it shows, big time. What is mommy supposed to say to little Johnny when he asks why all those women are walking around with beavers under their arms? And mommy can't get any satisfaction by complaining to the regulatory authorities, because the regulatory authorities are the TV advertisers themselves! And I know anecdotally that the "regulatory authorities" just bury any complaints in fluff and red tape.

People might ask the question - who cares? And therein lies half the problem - apparently not enough people DO care to make a difference.

With the culture being so hopelessly infected by the pharmaceutical paradigm, it's a pity someone doesn't come up with a drug that makes women WANT to have children, and makes men WANT to help raise and support them.

That's something that used to come naturally. Still does, in some parts of the world.

IMO it's comparable to the candy bar ads a few years back where they had the lumberjack sitting astride a fallen log with a woman standing by his side stroking the log and the slogan for the candy bar - "The Hard Bar!"

What the hell that's got to do with a candy bar goodness only knows!

I suppose a beaver has more direct relevance to personal hygiene products...

But IMO it's still not the sort of thing that should be waved in kiddies' faces over the evening meal.
