Have you ever ..........?

As a kid I used to read the adventurous stories of Tenzing Norgay. I dreamed of climbing it once in my life. But due to my poor physical condition now I have realised that it is just a fantasy of child's mind.Can do climb Mt Everest???

I remember when Mount Everest (whose name should really be Chomolungma - meaning 'Holy Mother' or 'Saint Mother') was first conquered in 1952 (the same year and at about the same time that our Queen was crowned).

In those days, it was a very big achievement - probably as great an achievement as putting a man on the moon was later, though far less expensive. These days, it's almost a tourist trip which can be attempted by people who would never have dared to consider it 50 years ago.

It is still a very arduous and dangerous expedition, of course, but with base camps set up and fully supplied and experienced mountaineers to guide one, it is far less of an ordeal. It just goes to show that it is much easier to follow in someone's footsteps than to be the first to do something.

Not many of us are privileged to be the first to do something significant and many more can follow in their footsteps. If the 'something significant' is worthwhile in itself, then it is also worthwhile for others to follow. I am not sure how 'worthwhile' it is to climb Mount Everest now. For Hilary and Tenzing and the rest of John Hunt's team, it was worthwhile 'because it was there' and the attainment of the summit was what the team had set out to prove possible. Because it was a British team (notwithstanding that the actual 'heroes' were a New Zealander and a Nepali!), it was a big feather in the British cap at the time.

If one wants to climb to the highest point above sea level these days, it is mostly a matter of how much you want to spend ... there is no real question that one cannot do it. If your personal ambition is to do it, then go for it. It is, perhaps, your way of saying "I can do anything I set my mind to".

The knowledge and belief that you can do anything you wish to achieve is actually the hardest thing to come by in this world. All of us are capable of so much more than we think we are. For someone who is homeless, penniless and with no friends and prospects to dream of one day helping others like him to get a first foot on the ladder ... and to achieve that dream ... is, relatively, a far greater (and more worthwhile) feat than climbing Everest. John Bird, the founder of the Big Issue, is one of the many, many people who have climbed their personal 'Everest' and have made life a little better for others.

Perhaps that kind of personal goal should be called a 'Never-rest' because it takes grit and determination to hold onto a dream long enough and hard enough to see its achievement.

thats wonderful dear...it will be a thrilling experience ...now its not possible with job and everything but still....i will give it a try after..2yrs...what bout you....when are u planning to do it.???

Hi! Sorry, i have never given a thought about climbing Mt.Everst.
However, i wish let your ambition be fulfilled, at the earliest.

Yeah but i wanted to climb mountains off snow. I dont like snow i love rock climbing:) mroe

I do believe that every individual has his own ambitions or dreams in life. Personally, I have a lot of these not only for myself but for my own family as well. I'm a married woman for more than five years now and we do have a daughter who is turning three next month.
At present, we are experiencing a financial crisis just like many other people out there. I think that because I'm the only one working for the family, the burden of paying all of our existing monetary obligations, bills, and providing for our meals, is placed on my shoulder and is already wearing and stressing me out. I don't want our lives to be like this for a long time. I'd like to have enough funds particularly to purchase our own house and lot, for our daughter's education, savings for our retirement age, and to be able to put up a lawful and lucrative family business which our daughter and future grandchildren could inherit from us.
Even when I'm still studying, I really wanted to have my own business and having myself as my own boss. It's not that I can't work for other people but I'd like to have more freedom and give out my own rules. My husband also dreams of tending ur own business in the near future. I'm currently in my third year as a financial analyst in a local financial institution.
But frankly speaking and no offense meant, climbing Mount Everest is not one of my ambitions. It would definitely be exhilarating to achieve this and I urge you to go for this ambition of yours.
