Ex-Manson follower dying, seeks release from prison

I know as a Christian I should say yes but like you I am at odds with the whole compassionate release thing.
I know that she was a mixed up person with Charlie Manson and all but she helped to kill many and was a huge follower for yrs after her imprisonment.
I think that the person convicted should do the time.
Now if she was wanting to visit a dying mom or something I think they should be allowed to do that but not release.

She is there for a reason. And with a life sentence she deserves to die there. Did she show any compassion for those she murdered? No she didn't! So no compasion should be showed to her. All of those people need to have the keys to their cells thown away. Cold Hearted? You bit cha.

I agree with you -- I see no reason for Susan Atkins to seek compassionate release. What kind of logic is that? "I'm serving a life sentence, but I'm dying so I should be released from prison?" Hello! What part of the term "life sentence" do you not understand? I'm not usually so unfeeling, but if you can't feel compassion while you're murdering someone, I can't feel much compassion for you just because you're dying.

I don't think she should be released either. she committed alot of crimes and murderers and there is no reason for her to be back out on the streets. She did the crime and needs to do her time regardless. They need to keep her locked up until she passes away. she took lives and hers should have actually been taken a long time ago. That is just how I feel. An eye for an eye when she was totally guilty of these horrific crimes.

I do not know. On one hand you want to punish people for .. well, crazy cold blooded cult murders. On the other, she's going to die soon enough anyway. Still, I love my wife but I do not think I would be standing by her in prison if she were a cult killer like Susan Atkins. But, I guess some people just can help whom they love.

I guess Susan is still being punished. Not letting her husband be there when she dies seems to be like punishing the husband. It would be a hard thing for me to say anything in support of Susan. I'm also not really motivated to strongly oppose her release either.. so long as she is going to die anyway, it probably comes out to just about the same thing.

Sometimes focusing too hard on vengeance causes on to be too cold hearted, I fear.

I agree with you all the way. The woman and her child doesn't have their life to live and so she shouldn't have either. We shouldn't feel compassion for her just because she is ill now. I think she should continue to serve her sentence in the manor it was given to her. Life. A life for a Life sentence. So if you are cold then so am I. It could have easily been one of our loved ones or friends that this happened to that died at the hands of this woman who was a Manson follower. I think they should ask the families of those who died becuase of Manson and his followers and see what they say..As they say from a cell,to straight to he`ll.

My heart goes out to her due to the pain she is having now but I don't feel she should be allowed out of prison. Her sentence was death to begin with and it was commuted to life in prison when they abolished the death penalty. Had that never happened, she would be dead by now anyhow so she has lived a lot of years that she really shouldn't have. My christian side says to pray for her and that she has changed and should be given peace in her last days but my head also tells me that she didn't care what she did to get her there so why should she get a break just because she is sick. I feel sorry for her family and also for the family of every one of the people she helped murder. She should have to stay there until she dies. Maybe they can fix it to where her family can be with her or something.

Since she's dying anyway, why not just kill her now & get all of this controversy over with? She doesn't deserve compassionate release and it's an insult that she'd even ask for it.
