Is World W ar 1 is the inspiration for j.r. tolkien to write lord of rings?

Hi manojjonam, I really don't know and I never hear about that. But it can be true because the authors need to get inspiration in something, right? For sure he write a great story don't you think so? This story have great moments of fight and plenty of action and heroism like the First War. Maybe you are right and Tolkien is inspirate in it.

The Ring Trilogy has a real world connection but it is not World War I, although his campaing experience may have helped him conceiving the battle scenes. But surely he got inspired by the uprising German menace, and the Dark Lord and the black riders have their origin in Hitler and his black SS hords. The Shire and the Hobbits themselves represent the English people: nice and harmless, and surprisingly stubborn when it comes to defend what they call their principles.

Nevertheless, the novel must be seen as a more general attempt to show the devasting influence that have ambition and power, affecting the lives of the innocent. The Ring promises limitless power thus its posession corrupts everybody including the main hero Frodo. That's why Tolkien puts before us another hero, a moral one: Sam. Not too clever but immunized against the dark influence by his loyal friendship and loving heart.
