Have you been discouraged by other people not to be what you want?

I don't see how it's helpful or builds confidence, I think it's the opposite, that it tears down confidence. When someone is discouraging you, they are basically tell you, you are not good enough.
When I was younger it seemed that whatever choice I wanted for a career, one of my parents would tell me the negative side of it. I think they just wanted me to see all sides of it, but what happened is I would drop the subject and look for something else.
I never did have a career, just jobs. I think it had a negative effect on my life. I don't think they meant to be discouraging but that was the effect nonetheless.
As a consequence, whatever my son says he wants to be or go to college for, I encourage him. It is his choice, after all, and I wouldn't want to be the person to stand between him and his dreams. Young people need encouragement, which in turn builds confidence.

yes i my friends many times discourage me..they play major role sometime to discourage me..

The only people who made it difficult for me in acheiving my dreams were my parents. I guess this was because both of them were not responsible parents. If a person has the support of his/her parents/parent when their young, it is possible to achieve their dreams and goals in life and not get discouraged. But some people do reach their goals in life without the support of there parents and fortunately I was able to do that as well. When we're older, we are discouraged by co-workers, friends, siblings, neighbours, etc. But this is due to jealousy on their part and if we ignore it, we can reach whatever goals we want to acheive. From experience, I have found the best thing is never to tell those known to me other than my hubby and children the goals I have set forth in my life because if I do, I usually never achieve them.

The only thing that discourages me to pursue the course i want in college is financial capability. I know my mother want me to go on with my course but it means less food on the table and the tightening of belt for all of us. I opted to take a shorter course so i could get a job and help my siblings with their studies. It pays as i got my dream job and help the family. Maybe this is God's way or let's say that sometimes being poor is a blessing in disguise.
