America, where is it headed. | | I hope most of you who read this will give your opinion and begin to prepare yourself for what looks like major changes for our Country. I spend alot of time researching and looking at the changes that we all face in our daily lives, and see that things are adding up in a very negative way. Please read, and bare with me as I point out some real facts(you may search them out yourself)as to the changes that are ocurring around us. Oil prices are continuously rising, and with no real reason. Our Government, although concerned about the effects it is having on the American people and the Economy, not only passed and granted an 18 billion tax incentive to the big oil companies; they vetoed a tax cut for the American people. Pres. Bush is threatening to strike Iran (2nd largest oil producing Country in the world) over nuclear weapons; they will most likely cut off supply. Sub-prime mortgages now being investigated; Why wasn't the Government overseeing them in the first place. The Banks' allowed these mortgage companies free reign to create high-interest designer mortgages for borrowers, who lacked the worthy credit of getting traditional loans. These mortgages were sold in bundles to the Banks and other investment companies. When things got difficult, these borrowers had no one or no where to go for help. The Banks answer to them was "Foreclosure". The problem with this is that if the Banks continue to loose profit, they no longer have money to loan. On a more serious note, if the banks do not have enough worth to cover the losses, they will go bankrupt: In these times, that may mean going to your bank only to find out that your paycheck and/or money is not there. Credit-crisis, due to higher energy, gas, and fuel costs; more and more American's are using credit cards to make housing, food and car payments. We are on borrowed time. President Bush passed a law (Presidential Directive #51), a law the congress has not seen nor voted on. If you think it can't become law, think again, it is just sitting there and it would not be the first law to be enacted without a vote from Congress. This law gives Power over all Government offices. Why would he create a law that gives so much power to one and not use it? Search the law and read it. He is not going anywhere. So, now that I have laid out some real true facts; where do you think America is headed? My opinion is this, we are headed towards some very hard, bad times. Our Country will not be the same as we know it. The oil crisis, the mortgage crisis and the credit crisis will bring our country to poverty levels. We will struggle along, as we are; until that day happens. Most of the U.S. will be poor, broke and disillusioned by what was once a great nation. President Bush and his new law, places him in power and control of this country. He didn't write a law he doesn't intend to use. Before the next election, we will be near or at poverty stricken conditions. We will welcome and plead for change, and a new Government. Under the guidance of Pres. Bush, we will be greatful for the rewards our new Government offers us. Tell me what you think?

I do think that bad times are coming too, but I know many people are in a kind of denial. Some has said it is regression, but I actually believe it si depression coming. The signs are in front of our eyes. I do not know anything about that law, so my question to you is, Does this law means that President Bush is not ready to hand oevr power come next year? Kind of confused here, so please pardon my ignorance. I knew it was really bad when a friend on tour in Europe mentioned that no one wanted to accept his US dollars unless he changed it to the country curency. he called the US dollar monopoly money for these foreign countries with their Euros.

gangus2 (213) | 7 months ago | Thank you for responding, interesting that there has been no mention that the other countries do not want American dollars, I have heard that before and just recently. Under Home land Security, Pres. Bush placed in law; Presidential Directive #51(you can look it up and read Wikipedia, best known for actual facts); specifies the precedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a "catastrophic emergency". This law specifies that, following such an emergency, an "Enduring Constiutional Government," comprising "a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government," coordinated by the President of the United States, will take the place of the nation's regular government, presumably without the oversight of Congress. The directive specifies that the President has the power to declare a catastrophic emergency and does not specify who has the power to declare said emergency over. Again the need for him to create such a law can only mean that there will be some type of catastrophic emergency(is not specific on what catastrophis emergency is)and this law will be put in place. Hope this helped and thanks again, Karen

I think for alot of us until it gets even worse people won't do anything to help themselves. It always has to get horrid before people believe in the entirety of the problem.
