Some like it Hot! superb appetizers |
|
Take yourself some fresh Jalepeno peppers wash them and slice them lengthwise - now get a spoon and scrape out the seeds and all membranes (leave some of the membranes -those little white ridges- attached if you like it real spicy) now fill these little pepper boats up with cream cheese (you can use low fat varieites as well) once that is done grab yourself a package of bacon and cut the slices into thirds (easier to do if still a little frozen) take one of the thirds and wrap it around your cheese filled pepper and secure with a toothpick... repeat till you are out of peppers or bacon or cheese as the case may be. set them on a rack and bake at 340* till bacon is crispy - I find the thick bacon does not crisp up as well. These are SO GOOD! my mother liked them better after they cooled down, I ate all mine before they had a chance to cool off so I can not say which is better to my preferences.

1. lilybug (8724) | 4 months ago | Those sound wonderful. I really like the ones that are jalapeno peppers, cream cheese and then breaded and fried. I think I would like these also. I am going to have to try this one. Thanks!

3. kimbers867 (1102) | 4 months ago | This is too funny, I was just reading a recipe for these today. I'm not a fan of Jalepeno's but they sure do sound good. Just remember to wear gloves when you are working with the peppers.

5. Ruthep (3341) | 4 months ago | Those sound good. I like the poppers with cheddar cheese so I think I'd have to mix some shredded cheddar into the cream cheese before stuffing. I've never thought of wrapping them in bacon but sounds very yummy. Thanks for the recipe.

Modestah (7428) | 4 months ago | oh! make a few with and a few without so you can share with me which way you liked better. I did make a batch up with chopped onions mixed into the cream cheese, but it did not make much of a flavor difference:(

Ruthep (3341) | 4 months ago | I will have to let you know when I get the pepper. It is hard to find good ones in the stores around here, but will try as soon as I can.

9. zigzagbuddha (1380) | 4 months ago | We used to go to the Comedy Store every week and part of our standard fare was jalapeño poppers. I love them! I've never had them with bacon around them, but I don't like bacon that is not crisp anyway so I'll probably skip trying them that way, no offense hehehe. Nor do I mess around with low fat anything! I fast once day a week exactly so I can not worry about what I eat! I'm growing all kinds of peppers this year in my garden... jalapeños, habaneros, cayenne, and one other kind but I can't seem to remember what kind it is. Also sweet peppers. They don't seem to be doing so well though. They are not growing much at all, they are hardly any bigger than they were when I put them in. I love to put habaneros in my salad with plenty of creamy, avocado and goat cheese to cool my tongue. I think habaneros are among the hottest of the hot peppers. My brother's wife is from Afghanistan and she makes a sort of salsa, I don't know what to call it really, but it's just cilantro and jalapeños thrown in the blender with some lime and salt. When I have it around I put it on practically everything! Well, I guess I'm finished writing this 25 page 'comment'... I'm outta here. Later...

Modestah (7428) | 4 months ago | zigzag habeneros ARE certainly hot... they give a nice burn and lots of flavor. I forget what kind of pepper my father used in the ceviche he used to make when I was a kid... but between the hot pepper and the acid from the limes it cooked the fish.

zigzagbuddha (1380) | 4 months ago | Hehehe, I thought you were making a very funny joke, but I realize now that that is probably exactly what happens! I've never had ceviche, I'm barely familiar with the word, I just know I've seen it printed before. I could go online and find out what it is, but it would be more fun for you to tell me... hehehe, also less effort on my part.;-) (I don't know where everybody is getting those smiley faces. I used to like that little smiling face I put up there, but I've gotten almost addicted to the colorful actual smiley faces, and some of their too cute expressions.)

zigzagbuddha (1380) | 4 months ago | Wow! Thanks for the smiley faces! Hehehe, I guess some people read it when MyLot announced that they were available. I remember seeing something about it but that was before I decided I liked them so I didn't actually read it! What the hell is that last one with the black stripes or something on it's face?? Anyway, when I was a plant lady I used to drive around to my accounts all day, so I would pick somewhere with a nice view to have my lunch. The first day I did that I brought the habanero whole and cut it up sitting in my truck. Then, when I finished eating and drove off I was sitting at a red light and blew my nose, using my fingers to shove the kleenex up in there. I thought I was going to have to flag down the paramedics that went driving by in the opposite direction!!! I never prep hot peppers any more, well, habaneros anyway, without those thin surgical type gloves on! Hehehe, I guess you're not going to tell me what 'ceviche' is. I guess it's plain enough in your first post... fish cooked by the heat and acid of lime and habaneros!

|
Modestah (7428) | 4 months ago | ooops, sorry! I thought you wanted to know what pepper was used. lol. ceviche is a fish salad but also some make it with shrimp and other sea food. I could not imagine eating a raw habenero, I am satisfied with habenero sauce. yes, watch out for those soft tissue membranes - nose, eyes and*ahem* potty breaks. OUCH! you poor thang!
