I have taken cake decorating classes and found a recipe for fondant. I was courious if anybody out there has a recipe for fondant. The one that I have uses fondant icing sugar, shortening, flavoring, corn syrup and gum tex. I don't cook it I just mix it all together. It seems to work well, but it doesn't seem to set up real hard, even after several days. I know the wiltons fondant that I buy sets up harder but doesn't taste real well. Plus I like to practice with it and can't afford to keep buying it. What I make taste good and works, but it is to soft (I think). I am not sure why it doesn't seem to be stiff. If anyone has a recipe I would be interested in it. Thanks

I have tried the ready use fondants by wilton but I don't really like the taste of it. I started making my own fondant and I got the recipe from a Dutch cake site since I live in The Netherlands. I can translate it for you and it is easy to make and very cheap. It is called marshmallow fondant, and you can use it to decorate and also to cover your cake. You take one mug and stuff as many marshmallows in there as you can. You will need 1 table spoon of water, and about 1,5 cup of icing sugar.

-Put the marshmallows and the water in a microwave proof cup
- on the microwave for 20-30 seconds untill the marshmallows get bigger and soft
-Add a little icing sugar until it is desolved
-Keep repeating this process until all your sugar is used
-Knead the whole thing with your hands, be carefull it is very sticky
-make sure it does not stick to your surface by putting a little icing sugar on there first.
- keep om kneading it untill it does not stick, if it stays very sticky add a little more icing sugar.
-You can keep it in an airtight container

That's it, it sounds like a lot of work, but takes a very little bit of your time and does not need a lot of ingredients. And by the way it tastes great. Good luck
