What would you give as a wedding gift: money or presents? |
|
I will be attending a friend's brother wedding in few weeks and I don't know the brother and the bride well. I am not sure of what to get for them as the wedding presents. Other friends are suggesting getting china wares, electrical products and all sorts and I am not so keen on those ideas as I am very sure they already have them. Why would they want the same old things!!!! I just don't want to give the presents just for the sake of it and then it is left aside, not appreciated. I have received gifts that I didn't like before and that was what I did - kept aside and soon forgotten. Perhaps I should ask my friend to find out what he likes to have ( within my budget of course....lol ) or just give cash money!!! How much to give! That will be another matter to ponder. What would you do? Would you get a present or give money and let them spend on what they like? Or ask them first what they like and then get the present?

| 2. deewill (26) | 7 months ago | My daughter is getting married and everyone asks what to get them for a wedding gift. Well she has her own house with everything already and so does he. They didn't registar anywhere because they don't really need anything. So I tell people that we will be having a money tree. Which is really what they want. I know it seems rude to do money, but why does someone need another mixer or toaster. I do tell people that they like candles. With money they can get something big for their house that they will both enjoy. It is just up to you now days people like getting money, just as much as receiveing a gift.

Desierra1004 (435) | 7 months ago | Hie Deewill, thank you for the suggestion. Congratulations on your daughter's marriage and best wishes to her. I think that the money tree is a very good idea and save a lot of hassle getting gifts that duplicates what you already have and it;s unnecessary. Cheers and happy posting!

3. vicneedscoffee (875) | 7 months ago | It wouldn't hurt to ask them. I tend to give cash as presents unless I come across something that really suits a person. I hate the idea of giving a gift that will be a waste to the person I am giving it to. I figure cash is king, they can buy whatever they need or want. My grown nieces enjoy the gifts I make them so I always take the time to do something handmade for them. I know their tastes so it is easier. My great-nephews, though, I am out of touch, so I give them cash because I don't know what to give them. If in doubt cash always works, especially in this economy. And if the couple has been living together before getting married they usually have everything they need.

Desierra1004 (435) | 7 months ago | Hie Vicneedscoffee, thank you for the suggestion. It's nice to present someone with something that you self made, very precious and meaningful indeed. What a talent you have:) If only they would come up with a registry list of things they need...lol, it will be so much easier. Someone just suggested check, which I think it's a great idea too. How much is the standard gift cash that you will give?

6. chirantani (1119) | 7 months ago | I will prefer giving presents. Because whenever he will look at the presents,he will remember about me. Certainly I will plan for a very special gift, which will be unique, and will not be duplicated by other guests at the party.

Desierra1004 (435) | 7 months ago | What a shame and wasted, guess he will think of donating to charity:) I wouldn't want that to happen to me. I think giving " Ang Pow " would be best as we don't have to worry what to buy or not and they will be happy to add to their money tree. Thank you for sharing and cheers,
