Unemployment problem

We are having huge unemployment problems here in America. In my opinion it's because of George Bush. He only wants to make the rich richer...also, many people are on welfare, but in my state, Rhode Island, a humongous budget cut is coming into play next month, a lot of people who previously qualified for welfare will not qualify anymore, and children will be without medical insurance too. How are single moms who don't get child support or anything supposed to survive? I am fortunate to have qualified previously, not sure if I will still qualify, but welfare helped me get a vocational degree to be an office assistant, now I am looking for a new job because I just lost my job two weeks ago. I totally understand. Even America, who thinks they are the BIG DOGS of the world has many problems with employment. Not only that, but poverty, and in some place there are people who can't read...all of these factor into why the value of the American dollar is going down...thanks for an awesome topic that I can TOTALLY relate to.

we are both from the Philippines so i am aware of this problem, not only our country suffer this world of unemployment. the caused of this is the closure of so many firm because of higher operation expenses and unproductive employees or workers. Many year that no salary increase that caused the workers to go out and shout on the street for salary increase that many firm can't do. The options they can make:

1. grant salary increase but lay-offs of employees

2. no salary increase, all employees continues work.


hard to choose if this situation arise.

Money and Money is always the problem. It's hard to look for a job when you were not graduated from college, undergraduate can look for a job but only for contractual basis. Not all company's are paying minimum salary. The wage of every Filipino is not enough to compensate their everyday needs. I am graduate of bachelor degree but I experienced a hard time looking for a job. Fortunately I am a working student before so I have an employment record and experience, that's a plus. The government or ours, no comment. I know some Filipino like you already knew about our primary problem about corruption and etc.

Hello dolce, I am also sad about that news and truly alarming considering the fact that all the basic commodities are now increasing. I know also we have several professional "kababayan" who can't find a good job, how much more the people who never had any certificate or diploma. I hope our officials will be able to come up with solutions and they will prioritize this issue.

Unemployment has been a real problem in many countries and it has sored to unbelievable percentages.This is also not aided with the amount of criminal activity in the world as it is also increasing.Life has been unbearable for many people in my country.Hardworking people get peanuts which is not worth the trouble.

sorry to hear about what is going on out there, it is really sad coz it seems like that is the common trend now anywhere in the world.
back here, we are losing a lot of job and foreclosures of home out here and it was too sad as i see a lot of family suffering big time.
i just searched on the news the unemployment rate here and it shows that it increases 5.5%

btw, because of this there are so many family here who dont have homes anymore according to our local news the foreclosure rate here gone up high 48% since last month (i think or last year) which is very high and whenever we are driving you can see a lot of "for sale" sign in their front and some signs has been there for almost a year now and no one is buying.
too sad coz the mortgage company is not helping at all.

anyway, i think like your country americans are having jobs right now that is not really what they do before and it is not paying half of what they used to and still they are doing it just to survive.

The US jobless rate is up to 5.5% from 5% in April and up from 4.5% a year ago. This is a fairly moderate jobless rate - not really so bad compared to 8% in the Phillipines. The US economy is large enough; however, that our wake rocks the rest of the world.
Interest rates were cut a few times and many Americans got a special tax rebate, but interest rates will probably not be lowered again soon because of fears of inflation. Lowering interest rates can create inflation.
The bad news is that we are probably in a recession, the good news is that most recessions last only 3 or 4 quarters. The worst recession we've had in the last 20 years was in 1991, I believe, and it lasted about 15 months before things started to turn around. I think we are approaching the turn around point.
Saudi Arabia is supposed to be increasing their oil output and people are getting more interested in alternative fuel sources. Things will get better again.

and also in Indonesia there is the problem of unempoyement. I think you also know it well. Many people of indonesia have to go to other county to get a job. My goverment should solve the problem but till in unemployement still a never ending story in my country.

Hi dolce_vita! Isn't it sad thinking that we have a lot of unemployed countrymen nowadays? I am one of those unemployed and it is really difficult making both ends meet. The pressure and stress really gets into me but I am still not losing hope that there will be an opportunity one day for me.

If the aAmericans are compaining because of their president, we Filipinos were of the same situation. our presidents, past and present, were inutile to really solve the unemployment. they always depend on foreign capital to solve this malady. This will only bring the profit away from this country which will eventually dry us out. Our deficit is growing because the leaders(past and present) only know short term projects that will plug the leak but not really solve it long term. now that many of these foreign companies are closing and transferring to either china and vietnam, many unemployed are adding to list.

ever since, Filipinos are migrating in droves and apply for work overseas because the working condition here is deteriorating. the salary offered here is just enough for an employee to go to work. Even the meployed are not satisfied because it is not enough to put food on the table much more send their kids in school.
