Having a Child: The Pregnancy... |
|
Well, i've never been pregnant. I'm not pregnant now either, but i'm curious as to how the "discomfort" really feels and all the other things that are associated with childbirth. I've always wondered how it felt and would appreciate any explanation on the feelings during, before and after childbirth. A few questions i'd like to add in are: 1. What can you eat and what can't you eat? (Or what is recommended and what is not) 2. Have you had an epidural? How uncomfortable is it?

1. honeydew82174 (1235) | 7 months ago | I had all three of my children naturally. I do not know much about the epidural except most woman get one when in labor. I think it depends on you tolerance for pain. As far as being pregnant I think every pregnancy is different. You need to eat healthy and eat what you can keep down. morning sickness is the worst. some people get morning sickness and some don't. I don't think you get to uncomfortable until the last months. The baby moves around alot in there and it's uncomfortable. I think after giving birth you forget all the pain and enjoy your little bundle.

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | Yes, I have heard that an epidural is only given for pain. I don't think i'd want to get that I would much rather take a pill or possibly have it naturally. I'm sure if I had it naturally my fiance would have to go to the ER to get his hand bandaged up though, as i'm sure i'd break it from holding it so tight. Do you think that eating healthy helps with the discomfort in later months, or not? Can you explain more on the discomfort? is it a gas feel or is it a feeling as if something is moving slightly? I am sure that when I do get pregnant, and after it all I will forget the pain of childbirth and cherish the new born. Thanks for your response.

2. checapricorn (8534) | 7 months ago | Hi there, I remember my mom sharing me about her experiences during her pregnancy. I was the first child and she never had any morning sickness during those moment, She just love to eat a lot of boil eggs and fresh coconut...I am also excited to be in that stage but I wish it will be as easy as my mom, I had a friend who can't eat most of the food because she will vomit and it took like 5 months before she was able to feel normal.

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | Yes, cravings are a big part of the package, atleast I have observed for myself. I am glad that your mother had a easy pregnancy and I hope you do as well. I have also heard that the bigger the person's feet (the ladies) the easier it is during the birthing process.
| |
|
|
checapricorn (8534) | 7 months ago | wow...really? I never heard about that...My mom's size is 9, I am 9 also..LOL! Maybe true since she has entirely no pain during those times!
| |
|
|
SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | It may be true or it might just be because of the mother's diet, outlook on preganancy, etc. It's just one of those things that could be a mere linked coincidence.

3. newtondak (1901) | 7 months ago | Most of the discomfort comes from your enlarging uterus as the baby grows - sometimes you're short of breath because it's pushing upwards on your lungs - and usually some from the pressing against your kidneys and bladder which makes you need to urinate more frequently. What you can and can't eat pretty much depends on what agrees with you personally - some people can eat spicy foods and others can't. It is recommended that you minimize your salt/sodium intake especially if you've had problems with blood pressure, and it is recommended that you minimize or eliminate caffeine. Absolutely NO alcohol, and NO smoking or being around second hand smoke! I had two children with natural childbirth and vaginal delivery. My labors were long and tiring, but pain managed effectively with breathing and relaxation and no drugs. My third was delivered by emergency c-section due to the cord being entangled around the babies neck. My water had broke earlier in the day and labor started and progressed for several hours, so by the time they decided to do the c-section, I was more than happy to have the epidural. I really didn't feel anything other than pressure when they did the epidural, but that may have been because I was in active labor at the time. Labor pain is something that is hard to describe - it is as they say "contractions" of the uterus. Some people feel it more in front - the area where you're sticking out! Others have what they call back labor, which is more of a back pain. The one thing about labor pain is that you know that you're going to have something positive when it's over!

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | Thank you for your in depth response to me, as this helps me tremendously. I am not as afraid to have a child as I once was, and I thank you for clarifying everything for me. I have one more question, do you know if the feeling in the stomach is more or less intense then the feeling in the back depending on if it's back labor or front labor?
| |
|
|
newtondak (1901) | 7 months ago | I have never had back labor so I can't speak from experience, but others have told me that back labor is a more severe and uncomfortable pain. As others have said, each person is different, and often each pregnancy is different even for the same person. You are doing a positive thing by becoming informed in advance of having children. Find a good doctor that comes highly recommended by friends or relatives, and take other's labor and delivery stories with a grain of salt.

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | Stomach discomfort seems to be less uncomfortable then back discomfort. Thanks for your response, and advice.

tessah (2407) | 7 months ago | it refference to where the pain is.. it isnt in yer stomach.. its in yer pelvic area. how to describe it without it sounding frightening is difficult.. so i will just be blunt with it. if youve ever had menstraul cramps.. remember the worse youve ever had..and multiply it by like 1000. itll start in easy as the contraction begins that feels like a regular intense menstraul cramp and then intensify continually until it feels as if someone has a grappling hook attached to yer pelvic bone trying to rip it out.. and as it reaches the point you dont think you can handle it anymore.. it begins to taper off the same way it began until it disappears completely. as bad as that sounds.. it doesnt last for more than a minute or so each time, so it isnt something that isnt manageable.
| |
|
|
SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | That is glad to know, thank you for the clarification on this. I have had some monster cramps in the past, so I think I can get a good idea of how it will feel. Thanks for responding to clarify.

4. angelwhispers30 (1755) | 7 months ago | Being pregnant is different for every female. I wasn't uncomfortable till towards the end stages, because when you have a huge tummy, it's difficult to get comfortable in bed at night. Also, the baby moving around may prevent you from sleeping properly. There are a few things that you shouldn't eat, such as anything with raw eggs in it, such as Mayo. Liver is also out as it has a huge iron content, along with Pate. Alcohol and cigarette smoking should be cut out completely before getting pregnant also. As for giving birth, a lot of this depends on your pain threshold. I gave birth to my daughter using Gas and Air, and a pethidine injection. I did well enough with that, and recovered pretty quickly afterwards. With my boys, I had C Sections, under general anesthetic. While I was sore for a few weeks after, it was bearable.

|
SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | Thank you for your response. what is pethidine? Is it like an epidural?
| |
|
|
angelwhispers30 (1755) | 7 months ago | Pethidine is a painkilling shot, usually injected into a muscle. With me it was my thigh. It's very much like Morphine. It made me sleepy, but that was a good thing, because then I wasn't concentrating on the pain so much lol.

5. ambkeb (614) | 7 months ago | With my son...my oldest...I was so miserable the entire pregnancy. I was sick the ENTIRE pregnancy. I was even puking while I was in labor with him. I also had blood pressure problems with him so it was recommended that I had the epidural. Which was nothing at all. They do put it in your back...but it feels like a tiny little bee sting...once it is in you dont even feel it. The IV's hurt worse. With my daughter it was also recommended that I get the epidural because I wasnt progressing the way I should have and they use the epidural sometimes to just help someone relax...The more you are relaxed the less you fight the contractions and faster you can dialate and progress. WIth my son I also had a 4th degree tear (which means front to back) but my daughter I didnt even have to be snipped. My son weighed 8lbs 5oz and my daughter was 8lbs 11oz and both were 21 1/2 inches long. But like someone said...after the baby is born you completely forget everything about how uncomfortable you were being pregnant.

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | That has been in the back of my mind (forgetting about being uncomfortable) and I feel that everyone is right. I never thought about that, about the joy of having the baby overweighing the discomfort during childbirth. Thank you for your response.

7. sanell (1691) | 7 months ago | childbirth is not all bad. Yes you have discomfort, your body changes, but that is not as noticeable until you get into the 8th, 9th month of pregnancy. You can not eat Sushi, deli meats, too much tuna, certain fishes, just anything that is not cooked all the way. Their are certain shell fish you want to stay away from. Overall there is not much you CAN't eat but certain fish and anything raw you want to stay away from. Yes I had an epidural it was NOT BAD at all, I was more worried about having a contraction during the time I was getting an epidural. Both times I got one it worked right away and it took less than 5 minutes...my doctors were GOOD!!! I would not have done it any other way!
| |
| |
|
|
SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | I have heard of the raw fish thing, but must admit that it will be no problem here as I don't eat anything raw. I am glad that the epidural does work fast, that is good to know. Thanks for sharing, have a great day.

8. hornswaggled (922) | 7 months ago | I remember my pregnancies like it was yesterday and even though it's been twenty-six years since the first one! I loved almost everything about being pregnant. I was one of those disgustingly healthy people who took to pregnancy like a duck to water. The only thing that was problematic for me was the morning sickness. I was sick with everything I ate for exactly four months to the day of conception with both kids. I even remember the fist meal I ate that didn't make me sick! And that has been a very long time ago. I had more energy, and I think beauty than I have ever had before or since. I loved the babies movements, I loved the way my husband looked at me...the way he treated me with kid gloves. I did the natural child birth thing and it was amazing! My husband was coach and like I said, it was an easy time for me. I had my first in 8 hours and my second in 6. I went home the next day with both and they were the most beautiful things I have ever seen! I loved how everyone is so happy for you and the joy of the perfect child...even though that really doesn't happen it's a wonderful magical time!

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | I am glad that natural child birth worked for you. I would like to do that but am unsure if I could or not. Does the diet help effect the way the child is brithed? I know that sounds crazy, but I'd really like to know. Thanks for your response.

| 9. flatlander (44) | 7 months ago | Just to throw it in here. I don't think that If I were female, I would not want to have a baby!!! I was with my wife when she gave birth to my son. Now, I am six-two,230 pounds, in shape, been in the Corp, in-country, under fire, and a few other things. My wife on the other hand was about five two, and averaging around 110 pounds, when she started giving birth, I got scared, the look on her face, the tone of her voice scared the crap outta me!!!! So, to all the mothers and women out there- Thanks, but no thanks!!!!!!!!!

10. sylvia13 (848) | 7 months ago | I have had two children and I must say that except for the last few weeks of the pregnancy perhaps, I felt no discomfort whatsoever, on the contrary! I ate everything like normal, but took care with alcohol. I did not have an epidural, but I would recommend having a natural birth, as nothing beats the experience of actually giving birth to the baby!

SomeCowgirl (3542) | 7 months ago | I am glad that you had such an easy pregnancy. It's admirable that you had a natural child birth as I know that it can't be easy to go through it without any kind of agent that will help alleviate the pain. Thank you for your response. Have a Great day.
