Canadian Dollar still not good enough? email this discussion to a friend?

The Canadian dollar has been close to par and even above par with the U.S. for over a year now, yet we Canadians still pay more for the same products. My niece bought a baby stroller in the U.S. for $50 less than the cost of the same item in Canada. Everything from books, to gas, to electronics, to cars are still way too high in price Canada. When are we going to see our prices even up with the U.S.?

I was happy to see on the news last week, AND IN THE STORE, that the price of Hallmark Greeting Cards now has only one price on the back. No U.S. price and Canada price, just one cost. Finally! Someone is seeing the light and realizing we should not be paying so much more for the same products when our dollar is almost the same.

Ordering online is still too difficult but I think most of that is the cost of shipping from the U.S. to Canada.... as long as they don't charge shipping on top of the higher priced item.

Do you think any other products will come down in price? What do you think will be next and when? Books are a sore spot for me. I want to see the Canadian and U.S. prices the same. What about you?

Most of the time, the difference in the price of goods between the US and Canada are due to taxes. Taxes are much higher in Canada than in the USA. The taxes on gas are about three times higher in Canada than the USA. On a bright note, Canadians don't have to pay $600 a month for health insurance.

I honestly believe much of the price difference has to do with the taxing system used in Canada. An example is with current gas prices. Our gallon is .54 litres more than the US gallon. So multiply 4 litres by $1.429(the current local price for gas) and you get 5.716 an American gallon.Since the dollar is almost on par with the US,shouldn't they be close to being the same?So the US is upset over being at $4??This happens in alot of areas too.Where is the money going if not to business??Why,to our government of course.I realize we have to pay extra taxes for the services we receive(like health care),but a 25% difference is a little too much in my opinion.
