Abu sayaff!!

I think the ransom was paid even though they deny it. There's no reason for the abu sayaff to kidnap a high profile reporter then let her go for free. With regards to the military, they have a hard time dealing with the rebels because the abu sayaff call for a cease fire every time they're down, only to betray the trust of the government once they're armed again.

if there's mo more abu sayaff, our military will have no reason to ask for budget for their arms, you know...no budget...no money for them generals...no money= no honey...ayt??

I guess its more complicated as this bandit group posing as terrorist group fighting for a cause is deeply rooted with religion, and culture. I think military is having a hard time pursuing this as the community itself is partly to blame. Since most their members are either a family member or relative it is but natural tendency that they protefct their own. Religious fanaticism is also very prevalent in the area that is why cooperation even with the most moderate of them tends to side with them at some point. Next is the Military side of things, which also is corrupt at that point. Instead of really pursuing them they just play along and earn something along the way by selling their arms to the bandit group which they know has money from ransoms they got from their kidnappings. It a vicious cycle to see that we all are aware.

Since the abu sayaff was created by the cia to help in the afgan war and later left alone in their devices, they have military connections. Even the renegade military personnel said so because they were the ones who witnessed this. The kidnapped americans in the sepadan told the press that they were surprised that when they need something they will find some packages in the roads and they are their supplies! This is the reson why the US soldiers are still staying in mindanao, they do not trust our military to finish the abu sayaffs. There are also speculations that the generals have a share in the loot or ransom of the abu sayaff.

As for the ransom, it was carried by the lawyer of the mayor-negotiator and was placed in 2 duffle bags. if there is a strict implementation of the no-ransom policy, these bandits will not repeat the kidnappings since they will gain nothing from it.

coz they are the terrorists. does the terrorists in the states were all vanish? they are not, right? american people also hunts about the terrorist group but only few of them had been killed. yeah good to ces & her crew that they were freed

it is easy to say there is no ransom policy but by applying what they say is very difficult because this bandits are form because of money. the government deny it because to save the reputation of the politicians and add "pogi" points. ASG still alive and continues doing kidnapping in the of western mindanao.

I'm wondering too why our military can't stop this bandits for good. Seems to me they are unidentified.

So can we think ways of stopping them for good? I'm actually have no solution for today. I don't want to blame the government. When faced with such events as this one, we feel to be weaponless.

Maybe it is true that Mindanao has outside forces helping them. Sulu is just very near entrance Malaysia, and we just don't know who reaches them from there.

Maybe it's time to reach out to them, what do you think, or were they forgotten for so long? There are so many issues concerned. How do we create peace with them when we are believing different beliefs and talking different language? i think peace talks are useless.

what was the history behind all these why did they become like this? Mindanao, since I heard of it when I was young didn't change big way 'til now.

The war between the military and the Abu Sayaff would not end because the rebels have been the milking cow of the military where they sell their bullets. Just to quote Sen. Trillanes during the oakwood mutiny:

"the GMA government, through the AFP leadership and Secretary Angelo Reyes, has been selling bullets and arms from the government arsenal to the MILF, Abu Sayyaf and the NPA. These bullets, which kill our soldiers, actually came from the very government that we fighting to defend. This is why there is a war for over 30 years now, and still our enemies have not run out of bullets. As evidence, all the bullets that were recovered from the enemy had the markings that they came from the DND arsenal.

A number of soldiers have died, and even more are going to die in a war that they do not plan to end. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of civilians have been caught helpless in the crossfire. They do not want the war to end so that it will continue to be a milking cow of greedy and treacherous officials in the AFP and in the government.

Why these incidents never stops?Has it ever crossed your mind...a connivance between this two groups (military and rebels).I have nothing against this groups but we have to be open to such possibilities.What about the mediator?Don't you think they have something to do with it as well?Regarding the ransom...I don't think they will let these people go without it.The thing is why they love to kidnap reporters/staffs from this channel-if I'm not mistaken this is the second.Why not kidnap someone from the other channel.lol.joking!!!!

The issue on whether the Abu Sasaff was paid ransom for the liberties of their victims is not significant as compare to the maladies it brings to the Philippine Society. Lawless groups such as the Abu Sayaff and the like is founded on ideas that their members are willing to sacrifice to the altar of death just to achieve their cause. In that way to find mileage in the society, they resorted to kidnapping, the purpose of which among others, are to find media scope and to support its logistics. In addressing the issue on Abu Sayaff, one must first open again the pages of Philippine history. During the past, it is only Mindanao,Southern islands of the Philippines, that was hardly conquered by colonial powers of Spain and America because the inhabitants therein were patriotic and refused external power which they even now possesses. The Abu Sayaff was in fact the clandestine creation of the past government to neutralize the existing of MILF and after its secret mission they turned out to be the most number one enemy of the government and linked to international terrorist network. The former President Estrada tried to eliminate them entirely but Estrada was the one who was eliminated from the presidency before the expiration of his term. The Abu Sayyaf has acquired already a vast network and "diplomats". They can even finance a political party or politician and some group of legitimate peoples organizations to influence the bureaucracy and to carry out their black agenda without the people knowing it. The government may capture and kill their leaders and members but their ideas may live as is and be continued by other who sympathize with them. It is wrong notion to believe that the present government is not doing its job to curtail the Abu Sayaff for fear of losing the military budget or kickbacks. It is only that an idealistic warrior like the Abu Sayyaff, the moment they were wounded the gallant they will fight, the moment they were killed the more they become. To stop and erase them from the mantle of the earth, effective measures which include not only military actions, but much on education and introduction of real livelihood programs in Mindanao as well as infra facilities to convert that jungle into real place worthy to live on. These job is not only the responsibility of the government but of the entire Filipino people who love peace and tranquility so that the Philippines will become a desired place to sojourn.
