It really depends on where you are located! There are shelters, it does not usually depend on having an income, many places will help you get training and housing! But it depends on getting on the waiting list! Maybe smaller towns and cities do not have it so bad, but the major metropolitan areas have plenty of working homeless!

Yep, Olive has it right. If you apply for housing assistance you are going to be put on a waiting list. I had a friend many years ago who tried it, and the waiting list was 3 years long!

But she could go to Social Services to see what she can qualify for right now. I'm sure she could get some kind of help. The Salvation Army helps in those types of situations as well. And churches will not usually send you away without helping you in some way.

I am not talking about things like Section 8. I am speaking of "EMERGENCY HOUSING." There are shelters and such all over America.

Have you ever tried to get into a shelter in California? Even with children, there are waiting lists for shelters! They are all full under the current president and probably even before that! If you do not have kids, or a disability, it is sometimes almost impossible to get in before you have to vacate your apartment! In California, it is even tougher and many people agree to stay in the same home even while divorcing! A waiting list for section eight that is only three years, is not too bad! That means you may eventually get to the top of the list!

Alright, you may be right about that. I have been on SSI since 2001, so I may not know all of what is happening in the "real" world at this time. I do know that there are people who attend the community college across the street from me and are living in cars.

She was going to talk to her family yesterday. I don't know what the outcome was. I hope that it is positive. But she has no one in the same State as her even. I hope that she will find something through her employers who are a large, nationwide organisation.

In California, the churches are closed during the day! Some offices are open, but many churches are broke right now! I am a resource person for my area, and I can tell you that shelters are full year-round! She may be able to get a roommate, or rent a motel room for a short while! There are many working class people living in their vehicles! If she does not have a child, then the picture is even bleaker for he finding a place to stay. I may be able to help her find a place to shower and receive mail! Otherwise there is a lottery system in place for the cots and space available! If she does not mind religion being a big part of the shelter, then she may be able to get help at one of the Rescue Missions! The singing will help her feel better and many people live there for six weeks up to three months or so.

Very helpfull, now what Church is broke according to who. According to what I know churches don't pay taxes. and this can be the only way, they can be broke. Unless paying for abuses performed by their priests, can be an excuse; but not a reasonable answer; If you refer to the Catholic church. The so called Pope, is living the live of the rich and famous. The other churches, still have a enough cash to pay the lives stiles of their leaders and family members very well, plus any other follower. ¿Who is broke? ¿What evidence they got, about it? ¿Are them really advocates of the Lord? ¿Or just another cult, like Jim Jones?! Some body is going out of his way to avoid his resposabilities, before the Lord¡

I am sure each state is different where churches are concerned! I was referring to the non-profit organizations that churches have/use to help people in need! Where do you think they get the money to run the church? Each church depends on donations from the parishioners to survive! They may not have to pay taxes on their donations, but they still have to pay taxes on everything they buy! And they have to pay rent, if the buildings are not owned! Some churches are even starting to charge for religious instructions for public school!

Yes, that what they told you and many others; but go check their banks accounts, and you and others parishioners will find out the real deal, of those so called priest. They just live out the pockets of people who don't belive, that there are so called priest who work for the money they obtain from fools who do belive them.

I shall always be there fore her to talk to to. That's all that I can do right now. My friend is a little older than you were. But I am heartened to see that it can be done. She has no money at all and that will prove a stumbling block in finding an apartment. I'm hoping that he family can help a little. But clearly it can be done and the answer is not to give up hope. The Salvation Army has some shelters where you can stay for up to three weeks! It can be enough to help you save money, if she makes enough!
