Leadership qualities |
|
Have you been elected to any position in school, organizations, associations, etc.? Yesterday, I attended Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at my kids school. I attended 2 meetings, 1st at my eldest (a 5th grader) and 2nd at my 2nd's (a 1st grader). Those meetings are for the Homeroom PTA. And guess what? I was elected Treasurer at my 5th grader and President at my 1st grader. I was so flattered, I don't even know the ones who voted for me. I really don't want to accept it but it was a responsibility that was entrusted to me. I guess, I will be staying at their school a lot of times from now on. Just this morning, I was at a meeting for my youngest (Kinder) and I was elected President again? LOL. Then after that, I went to my 2 kids again to attend General PTA (this time for the whole school) and was elected Secretary. Whew, I don't know how will I divide my time for this tasks. I don't know what they see in me that make them nominate me and vote for me. How about you? Have you been elected before? What do you think are the leadership qualities that people see in you that made them vote or pick you for that position?

| 8. blackhawk27 (77) | 7 months ago | I've been elected/appointed to many leadership positions throughout my college career. I was appointed as the secretary of my fraternity my freshman year of college. I continued to hold that position and was elected as the Vice President of Communications my sophomore year. My junior year was when I start to step things up. I was appointed co-academic chair, kitchen manager, a stage coordinator, song chair, a network administrator, and a member of our fraternity's standards board committee, as well as being elected as the secretary for the Asian Student Association, all in my junior year. Senior year was even bigger. I was elected as the Vice President of Member Development for my fraternity, elected to a second term as the secretary for the Asian Student Association, and was elected as the trumpet section leader for the band. At the end of senior year I was a founding member for the Professional Asian Society of Engineers and Scientists, and was elected as the first President for that organization. I was also elected as the President of the Band. I was elected as the Assistant Vice President of the Judicial Board for the Interfraternity Council. Didn't think I could top that, but in my super senior year (5th year) I was elected as the President of my fraternity, was still the President of the Band, still the President of the Professional Asian Society of Engineers and Scientists, and was elected as the Vice President of the Judicial Board for the Interfraternity Council. Whew. So obviously I was pretty active. Actually, I could've held more positions as I ran for 5 positions for my college's student government, but unfortunately lost. IT actually doesn't take a whole lot to be a leader. You have to have confidence in what you do. You have to be organized and be able to manage your time well. You have to be able to delegate, which I believe is one of the most important qualities a leader needs to have. A leader should have to be able to do everyone's job, but be able to hold people accountable for making sure a job gets done. Getting along with your organization/team/group is a given, and being able to gain respect from your peers as well as giving respect to them is what you need too. That's really all you need I believe. All those people saying you need technical ability, etc. Well, everyone needs to be able to do that, otherwise the job wouldn't get done.
