In about how long has it been since you've written an essay?...

I just wrote an essay for Associated Content and submitted it for upfront pay, but I don't think I'll get it because I'm new and it's just something I knocked out within a couple of hours. I've been writing for a long time and I'm pretty sure that I have the format down pat, but I could be wrong, too. The essay I wrote is about why I look forward to the Southwestern monsoon in the United States. I don't know how many words it was, probably a few hundred.

for me, it's been over 7 years and moreover, that was when i was in school. after that, no time nor chance you could say. and also, when i say essay, i mean those school essays like simple composition writing and all those stuff. not those complicated articles that we post on associated content and helium.
though i have done some simple articles on the latter two, i don't really consider them as essays.

I can remember there were different formats..Discussions,etc..but I'd need to get up to speed again to try something like that..Good Luck with the Class!

I write on Helium and Associated Content. I consider all my writing basically essay style writing. So I guess I am always writing them. There really are simple rules and once you have them down the writing will flow.

Argument - what is your basic framework or foundation
Proof 1 - support your argument
Proof 2 - support your argument
Proof 3 - support your argument
Conclusion- close with your basic framework restating your facts and your conclusions based upon your proofs

An essay has to be at a minimum 5 paragraphs long. Each paragraph has to be a minimum 3 sentences long. Each paragraph has to be distinct in its statements or proofs. You can have more paragraphs if you need them for your arguments, but not less. So it could look like this

Proof 1
Proof 2
Proof 3
Proof 4
Conclusion

Or like this

Argument
Proof 1
Proof 1.1
Proof 2
Proof 3
Proof 3.1
Conclusion

But you still need the basic format of an opening, 3 proofs, and a conclusion.

The hardest part is the opening. Once you have that the rest is fairly easy.

Best advice, stick to things you are interest in or are comfortable with.

the last i wrote an essay was ages, and ages ago.. when i was in school... i 'dare not' write an essay now... so.. when my kids show me their essay-tests results... i dare not say much either.. i make comments on where i see their mistakes.. but i leave the rest to the teacher's judgement...

I like to write just to exercise my writing skills and expression skills. The last time I wrote an essay was about twenty years ago when I wrote a short story type essay for a contest of the language commission here in Quebec. The story, although it was written as a fairytale, was really an essay about what could become of society if we concentrate too much on what language people speak instead of on the people themselves.

I don't mind artistic writing or casual writing like on myLot, but I used to hate having to write essays for school tests or papers. Being too intellectual takes all the pleasure out of writing for me.

I haven't written an essay in about 10 years. The last time was probably back in high school. I used to write lots of them because I took many English classes. Many of them were book reports or analyses. I never really liked writing essays because sometimes it felt that there was no order and logic to my writing, but it turns out I was pretty good at it. I remember getting good grades even though I felt that the essay wasn't very good. If I had to do one now, however, I don't even think I'd remember how to write one without doing some research and following some guidelines. But I'm sure it's just like riding a bicycle. If I had to do it, I could do it all over again.

for me its over 3years i have never written an essay.. last time i had written an essay in my class 10th... i was written an essay on my 1st day in class 10th and that day was boring day was really boring day for me coz on that day i was laughing wid my frnds of the matter which they were writing on their notebooks then suddenly teacher came and slapped me that was the last time i had written an essay...

for me it is over 4 years..last time i had written essay in 10th class i think

i have not done one in a good 5 too 8 years but i am sure there is website online too find tips about writing essays there is websites for everything else its the worldwide web so im sure that there is a website on how too write essays too so look into it wish you luck with you essay writing but i know if it was me then i would be a chicken and tell the teacher no i cant do it but if it was part of my grade then i gues i will have too dela with it!!!!!
